The kind of extreme shortages shown at the beginning – shelf after shelf nearly or completely empty – is not common in US either. I’ve seen particular products disappear temporarily, and the retailers are apologetic, but we still have abundant consumer goods and choices, by world and historical standards. Just not quite the degree of choice we were used to before the pandemic, when we could buy almost anything, anytime, without regard for origin or seasonality.

From everything i just heard from these truck drivers and the loose regulation of employing them, this whole seems like one big fiasco. No wonder so many items and goods goes missing everyday. And some packages never getting delivered or somehow the content had been replace with something else.

Self driving will solve all these issues. Unless you’re an truck driver of course, you will be out of a job and I think most of them realize this and that is why we see so many of them move out of trucking to other jobs.

It’s a shame you have something like the pandemic occur, that shows you the flaws in your system. Instead of fixing and improving, you have lawmakers looking for alternatives or make up some other excuse of why something is occurring 🙄
A system where profit is more important than the civilians, will only ever truly work for the rich and not the poor. For it is the rich that will thrive endlessly in a corrupt system, while the poor will struggle to no end in sight. The fact that the rich only got richer throughout this pandemic, shows just how broken the system really is🤑💸👀
But people don’t really care. If they thought it was as important as they give lip service to, they would’ve paid attention to the study published in 2014 that essentially declared the US is run by an oligarchy, based on legislative outcomes.
It’s too late. Either everyone gets used to living in an increasingly hostile economic system(which has conveniently been exported to the rest of the world), or everyone picks up a pitchfork and lays waste to it.
The principal deterrent is no one wants to be the first to take a bullet.

We don’t have a trucker problem, we have a brokerage problem and the middleman is largely responsible for much of the issue. A reasonable person will not work for free… DISPATCH is mobbed up and corrupt and puts guys at too much risk so most logical guys walk once burned. Industry is fine its the crooks that cause issue… but reports like this just want to imply that regulating and a union or whatever will make it cool?

Trucker here. I spend more time getting loaded and unloaded than I do driving. I don’t mind it, an extra $20-40 an hour. Just means higher costs for the consumer, but it is a sacrifice I am willing to make for that 100-150k/yr.

The real heroes are our truck drivers, and the most employees getting disrespected are truck drivers. Now they sending 18 years old with TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, etc all on his phone and driving a big rig on interstates is funny to me. Sometimes age matters in decision making a lot in trucking.
