In the latest of a string of in-flight incidents, an American Airlines flight from Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles was diverted to Kansas City after a passenger allegedly tried to open an exit door. NBC News’ Priscilla Thompson explains how the crew was able to subdue the passenger.

Because the doors open inward, not outward, the pressurization of the aircraft seals the door against its frame, preventing it from being opened during flight. It’s also locked.
It’s not the issue. The issue is at a passenger who is that unstable as to try and open a door mid flight is a very real danger to themselves and other passengers
The symbolism of him attempting to do it is enough especially for the poor passengers closest to him. Logic goes out the door mentally and fear kicks in. What if the passengers were old folks for example? The fact that something had to be used as a weapon to subdue him already shows how bad the situation really was.

At least put them on a “pay 10x the base rate” list including any family or associates boarding with him on any future flight.

Why don’t they put air marshals back on flights? They are needed now more than ever. At least two per flight.
Similar to the comment I was about to make. One armed marshal per flight. And the airlines should pay the ticket. Period.
Don’t think armed marshals are necessarily the safest route. Better to place a couple of UFC professionals who are willing to treat each situation like a match in UFC 1 through 5 but without the 2 rules they had of no eye gauging or strikes to groin.

Something has to be done due to the safety of staff and passengers. It’s completely wrong for this to continue putting the life of all on air at risk of anything happening. Stricker rules must be applied to those that do these things. Staff and passengers should not at all have to go through this.

Boeing, Airbus and other aircraft manufacturers should incorporate an small ejector chamber on their models then airlines will solve this problem. Contain the threat place in chamber then captain releases said threat at 10,000ft provided there either over open land or water don’t want innocent people on the ground getting hit by a cold corpse. No one can open the exit door in flight, unless the fuselage is first depressurized. Even mildly intelligent people should know this.
