Sanctions
Texting from Saskatoon Saskatchewan in the heart of Canada’s Wheat province. In the past Canada has sold huge orders of grain to China and the USSR. This grain must travel thousands of kilometres to reach a seaport. Only Siberia is farther from the ocean than Saskatchewan. Railway are an efficient method of transporting grain but Ukraine needs assistance in converting their rail system to EU standards . This will give Ukraine a safe means of selling their grain and attach them firmly to the West while denying Russia any influence on their affairs.
There’s a few issues with this suggestion,
1) The railways in Ukraine are a wider gauge than the railways in the neighbourhood (apart from Russia and Belorus), so would need to build a system of bulk transfer that would hopefully not be targeted by the Russians
2) The country hasn’t used rail freight much since they have good ports
3) The Russians consider the railways a legitimate target, so the potential risk is significant, particularly since there would be logistical blockages

@Endless The UN can deploy peacekeeping forces, which I believe is what the other commenter was alluding to. Specifically the real life events in the 90s in Africa, when the UN started out giving food, then overstepped their authority by trying to establish a democracy. If used with benevolence and common goals, I believe we could do better.

I think this crisis deserve a decent and detailed analysis of what is going on exactly. We’ve been hearing about it for weeks now but never do we get a coherent and complete analysis of what the issue is. If Russians are blocking the ports, literally not letting boats go out under threat of being attacked, what are the Russian requirements for lifting the blockade? If this is not the case then what is it exactly that is keeping the wheat from leaving? What assurances are they looking for and which ones isn’t Russia agreeing with?
What’s the point of talking about this crisis without reporting any actual facts about the issue itself?
Russia’s desire is the absence of a supply of weapons to Ukraine by sea. Therefore, they want to be able to inspect any ship on its way to Ukrainian ports. Why do they need to keep a fleet in the western part of the Black Sea.
The desire of Ukraine is the absence of a threat from the sea before clearing water areas from mines. Why do they need no Russian ships in the western part of the Black Sea.
There was a proposal from Turkey to maintain order with their fleet and guarantees that the Turks themselves would block the supply of unwanted aid to Ukraine or prevent an attack on ports by Russia, but this proposal did not arouse enthusiasm from either the Ukrainian side or the Russian one.

@SmellMyKKPP The facts were stated and your conclusion is right. Right now Ukraine can’t operate its own ports because of the mines used to protect itself from the supperior enemy. So do u see any way to handle things? I dont. Any nation that needs the grain is in no position to change anything and hoping for Russia or Ukrain to take a not desired position (while at war) just for their well being seems unlikely. US and China got the power to force something, but again not in their interest. So sadly many people will have to starve. Im glad iam not one of them, truly a horrible way to die.
This is all intentional towards humanity, food processing plants burnt down or blown up. A shipping port caught fire. Placing restrictions on truckers. Stopping the farmers. When are people going to come to a realization that the governments need to be removed and replaced with someone who actually has humanity in its best interest.
Can’t the grain go through Poland or other countries? Russia can block Odessa, but they couldn’t block all the roads and railroads to Poland and other countries where all kinds of goods leave and enter the country anyway. That’s also where weapons are brought in. If the flow of Western military support can flow unimpended, what prevents grain shipments to leave?

All the grain left in Odessa/Nikolaev are 160 gram pr person on earth. 4.8 million tonns are already eksported to europe. Whats left in Odessa/Nikolaev are 0.80% of the worlds total grain.
Why are countries totally dependent on buying food from foreign sources. I’ve been hearing of people growing food in desert environments using modern technology. Every country should reduce importing food and grow their own. It’s probably more to this problem. Wars, mass immigration, refugees, poor government lacking leadership.
The people of Africa have multiplied beyond their capacity to feed themselves, educate themselves, and now they will scream how bad the first world is.
Let us not forget yet how African countries sympathize with Putin and China. So let them feed you now.

You left out a key part of the story, the role of western propaganda. Russia is a bigger exporter of grain than Ukraine. But western sanctions have slowed it down. Ukraine calls all Russian exports of grain stolen with no evidence. Ukraine refuses to demine the ports it controls and blames Russia. The role of propaganda drives this whole story. Western propaganda blames everything on Russia. Ukraine refuses to de-mine its ports? It’s Russia’s fault. Western sanctions have slowed Russian exports? It’s Russia’s fault. The lie is repeated again and again which is standard propaganda practice. Much of the “crisis” would vanish if the west were not so intent on pushing the propaganda war.

It would be interesting how much grain is shipped by Russia thru the Bosphorus – to who – by dollars or Roubles. ?? Surely Turkiye (a nato member) knows. I count 2 Russian ships detained by Turkiye under suspicion of it was stolen – the ships were released.

Ukraine is the world’s 7 largest grain exporter. The grain in Odessa are less then 1% of the worlds grain. But 4.8 million tonnes have been exported to Europe. 25% of the total in stock .Russia together with Turkey have cleared mines in ship corridors and are willing to escort ships. The problem now is that Ukraine refuses to take away the mines in its ports. The grain in Odessa and Nikolaev amounts to 160 grams per person on earth. In other words, this program is 100% Western narrative. The goal is to get US / NATO warships into the Black Sea and to the coast of Ukraine.

Ukraine should demine its territorial waters (after it mined them) and export whatever it likes. Russia will control incoming ships to prevent weapons smuggling. Russia and Turkey agreed on that. But I don’t think that corrupt and dysfunctional Zelenskyy regime is capable even of demining. I think grain export will have to wait until liberation of Odessa from Ukrainian occupation.
