Protesters in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo continue to occupy the offices of the president and prime minister for a second consecutive day, vowing they will stay put until both officially have resigned.
Determined to see the country’s top leaders step down amid an unprecedented economic crisis, thousands of people stormed the president’s residence on Saturday and later set fire to the prime minister’s house, forcing the two leaders into hiding.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said he will leave office once a new government is in place, while Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, 73, would step down as president on Wednesday.
But protesters are refusing to budge until the two leaders have officially left their posts.

Presidential Palace structural stability is not be concerned , Professionally I am a civil engineer here I want to mention that Structures can be repaired and replace but Political and System reforms are much more important than these structures. Please highlight the political and systematic reformation that srilankans celebrate. So curious that Al jazeera paid more attention on the old building (We must protect it but the reformation is much more important Please report that)
“Structural stability is not be cornered” you have an entire city’s population on the structure and you’re saying we shouldn’t be concerned about structural stability. This incident should be a lesson for civil engineering industry and reform how we design presidential palace and account for in case citizens invade the structure.

Corruption begins as soon as you select a leader. No leader please in any sector. Everything must be collective by the people in the particular sector. Unfortunately Sri Lanka will face more trouble from the global capitalism and market economy!
Russia is the only country can help you to resolve the energy needs with an immediate effect. Russia has plenty of petrol, oil and gas. Everyone should contact Putin directly on social media, by embassies, emails, phone calls and peaceful public rallies all over in Sri Lanka with the request. The entire nation can request President Putin that we do not have dollars to buy petrol, oil and gas. We would greatly appreciate Russia if Russia can kindly supply petrol, oil and gas to Sri Lanka on a loan basis. In return, Sri Lanka would supply fruits, vegetables, fish, other goods and services to Russia on regular basis to pay back all loans in the future. We will not trade Russia’s energy supplies in Sri Lanka on high streets but we would use Russia’s energies between all necessary industries and agriculture for people needs. Sri Lanka is going to form a new community based “People’s government” with the help of army and police.
I have put it in short but you can write it in your own words. I understand Sri Lanka asked India for energies but India has to buy energies from Russia. China buys energy from Russia too. So Sri Lanka can directly ask Russia. If Putin receive several millions request on social media, and public rallies, Russia will supply energies without payment of dollars on a loan basis for fruits, vegetables, fish, other goods and services in due course. All other solutions including IMF loan will take years and more pain before getting better. IMF solution will only last six months. There is no way Sri Lanka can generate billions of dollars every year to pay for goods and services to foreign companies! Alternatively Sri Lanka can ask India, China or Russia to annex your little island with any of the above three countries. Small countries will always be very vulnerable with the global capitalism and market economy. So joining permanently with India, China or Russia is the best solution for Sri Lanka.
