Germany is gearing up to become the world’s third-largest military spender after the United States and China.
As NATO members ramp up military spending after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a German parliamentary report has suggested the German military is lacking everything from heavy equipment to warm underwear.
Critics have pointed out that the country has already increased its military spending by 55 percent in the past eight years, and they propose that efficiency, not money, is the problem.

It’s high time Germany step out of the shadows of ww2, and out of the subservient role it held during the Cold War, and become a leader in providing European Security. It’s economy reflects this reality. With great power comes great responsibility. No one in Europe should feel the NEED to look to the USA for help. In absence of a United European Armed Forces the next best solution is for the big European nations to have strong militaries.

A couple of points. Germany must do a better job to arm itself against foreign threats like Putin’s Russia and even a more militaristic China. But it also has to keep an eye on internal threats like the infiltration of Neo Nazis in the armed forces. With the rise of fascism in the US the world cannot afford to see Germany become less free and democratic.
The US has much more to worry about regarding neo-fascists. Just because of Germany’s past does not mean it is at risk of it today.

Germany rearming doesn’t really matter, if they build a much larger Tank force with Vehicles, planes and warships, plus all of their logistical support that comes with that. Last time I checked Germany had no oil or natural gas to fuel that military.
