Earlier this month, a crisis erupted in the West African nation. Hundreds of people took to the streets in frustration at the economic hardship. Protests turned violent and led to deaths.
Will the violence end peacefully before a general election next year? The president of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, talks to Al Jazeera.

It some how hard to say the president is for from the truth of all, but I can say that the real truth and the court of the demonstration is hidden. Before the protest, citizens had been notifying the government on how the protest is going to be staged and the reason for such protest, but its gives a blind eyes and deaf ears to such. The day one protest was set to be a sit at home, a day two protest was meant for display of cards on the needs of citizens and day three was to go in the street for the international community to hear the cries of citizens on their sufferings. However, the government was just waiting for the third day of the protest to use the military and the police on civilians who came in the street for a peaceful protest. Because, civil society organisations, The journalists, the religious council the paramount chiefs and the rest are controlled by government officials, no one was there to speak the truth and expose the true picture of what is happening in the country. People are really suffering, the cost of living is skyrocketing everyday, the standard of living is dropping every bit of time. The demonstration is no course to blame on any perpetrators, but it was a synonymous and compounded agreement by the majority of citizens who are suffering. Count how many or the length at which th human capital development of which the president is claiming to have achieved has reached. How many children are enjoying the free quality Education and how many schools are enjoying the school feeding programme and how many pupils are receiving free learning materials? It is just a vague lie….how is the Tok N Do slogan has benefitted the people of sierra Leone? I can say nothing because since independence we are still facing an increasing hardship in every government that is coming and I can say this has been the worst of all. I would have loved for the EU and the International Community to send independent observers to come and investigate the true picture on ground. Not all that has been said by the president seems to be true, however, this regime has landed the citizens to a divided nation through Tribalism, Nepotism, sectionalism which are to be named but a few. Citizens cannot wait for an election to vet their anger on government. Citizens went to the streets to put government on it toes to work and provide the basic needs of its citizens. Voting out a government that faild to deliver is the last option and which is normally seen as a long waiting process.
Anyways, the government needs to step up in bring an open dialogue and a fear opportunity in all areas of sustenance in the country and equal opportunities are given to all citizens not by sect.

If there is one thing countries i.e Africa should take from this Ukraine and Russia war, is that the West including the US will do almost anything to protect their interest, including weaponizing food and see mothers and kids starved to death, and deploy their favorite tool of sanctions.
Africa must invest in food science, agriculture, machinery and food storage facilities. We must stop our dependency on import to feed our population. This is very important as the world is getting dangerous by several dictators with big guns used to threating others.

The past and present government have failed the people of Sierra Leone woefully. Poverty is everywhere, even basic balance diet food 1 out of 10 people can afford. Am a Sierra Leonean I left the country about a year ago, not wishing to go there for the next 20years. corruption is the order of the day, tribalism and loyalty to political party is what all the politicians there are signed up to. It’s such a shame for a country with a population not even up to 10million the people are suffering, the capital city alone looks like a village.
