It’s likely, this wouldn’t be the first time he did something similar, but then what is stopping Putin from saying that Ukraine has started war with Russia the moment the votes come in and say that they do want to be part of Russia (the votes will of course be cheated to give Russia the power), since Ukrainians are in those areas fighting, this would give Russia the motivation to either start a full scale war with Ukraine and Europe, or to launch nuclear weapons into Ukraine. That is his plan I believe, which is very cowardly. But, the positives that come from this action for Ukraine can also happen, the conscripts who have been fed propoganda the entire time will see what Russia has actually done, those guys are pretty much just ordinary citizens, and they will pass that information back to their families and this can destroy Russia internally. The vote could go to Ukraine and Russia could be forced to leave at that point, I doubt this very much. If Putler launches Nuclear weapons, other countries could retaliate, I would believe that the US would absolutely do this, maybe not with nuclear weapons themselves but they would definitely be drawn into the fight if nuclear weapons are used by Russia, nuclear weapons are a danger to the world, not just the people it’s used on. It is clear that India and China are now realising what Putin is doing and they’re both asking for the war to stop, and I believe that even their disapproval of the war existing now or the escalation of the war could definitely put Russia in a really bad relationship with those other countries and Russia would have to end the war. Either way, if it gets worse, there are powers above Ukraine’s own that could potentially de-escalate it, or if nothing happens and Ukraine continues to defeat Russia as they have been, the war could potentially be over soon.
In 2014, Russia inserted their militia to Ukraine and held voting, to Annex large parts of Ukraine, the parts they’re trying to still take now are those same ones, I think Russia can only continue for so long before they inevitably fail, as they already began to.
