Why would people not want to go into 5 figure debt or more just to get failed by some teacher who demands you believe things that arent
I certainly wouldn’t pick you as a teacher…
My two degrees are meaningless. Employers interviewing me laugh at my degrees and knowledge. No one takes them seriously.
College and higher education is essential to prevent people (including government) to take advantage of you and your emotions.
Take a look at how MAGA was made.
Better solution: Go to community college instead, it’s WAY cheaper.
I have a bachelor’s in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I don’t use it at all. I started my own business that required no degree. Higher Education teaches us to work for corporations.
Start of the American fall. China will sadly take over.
I wanted to go to college but my dad is a prime example of why I decided it’s not worth the effort, he’s a college drop out averaging between 250k-300k a year in his line of work right now. Also one of his tenants that rented from him last year graduated with a doctorate but she unfortunately struggles more than I do financially.
I dropped out of college because of being undecided what to major in and i started working. I love my job and i rather be working somewhere i like than somewhere i dont want to be in no matter how much i get paid.
I’ve been thinking This same thing
Community Colleges and State Colleges are still a GREAT way to go!
Economic down turn equals more competition and what is the thought process for some Americans, don’t get a degree and be less competitive
Go to community college,
Apply for scholarships,
Pick a degree that ACTUALLY makes money,
Pick a degree that doesn’t require 7-9 years of education,
Find an in-demand field
It was Predatory Lending to literal kids with a fake promise of returns.
Not everyone can make $100k a year you cant send 5000 kids to college for a field that does have near that amount of employment opportunities.
Pick you major and stick with it. Dont waste a year and 15k. Think long and hard and seek trade school options before committing to a small mortgage before you are 20.
You can work at any company with no degree, but not any position within that company. That said, for upward mobility, you can pivot off work experience which eventually is 40% of your resume. Personality and degree make up about 10% — the other 50% is what you did (if anything) while employed that benefitted the bottom line, directly or indirectly. “I see you have a degree in _____, that’s good. Describe a time at work when you were faced with a complicated problem, how you solved it and how it affected the company.” I wonder as an experiment if instead of going to college, you used all of the money to actually pay companies to help solve their problems, you might have something more valuable both on paper and upstairs.
A second thought: You can acheive a high paying job with no degree, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that position is desirable. When a position is truly desirable, especially at a known company, talent specialists gather as many applicants in order to maximize the odds of hiring the best person for the job. Unfortunately, requiring a degree is just a standard for no other reason than to thin out the applicant pool so they only receive 500 resume’s from the applicant tracking system instead of 2500. These numbers are not inflated. As long as it’s true that (in general) a college graduate is more desirable to hire than a non-graduate, having a degree will be beneficial in acquiring *desirable* jobs.
Did you learn you are not the body or the mind? If not it was only superficial education for so called survival. Are you a mere body or perhaps no thing at all?
Most the ppl I know going to college are just using it to avoid a real job left with dept pursuit a different occupation they initially went for
Price of college degrees are sky high, when jobs that require college degrees might not even pay $20/hour. There’s a market bubble, and it will burst
The issue is that these days people need high paying jobs in order to just get by. It should be okay for people to not go to college and just have an average job, but these days that means poverty and bankruptcy, which is why theres such a rat race to get to college. You shouldn’t be forced into poverty because you have an average paying job
It all also depends on what field your planning on going into, or what you want to dedicate yourself to,
masters degree to pay 60k smh smd
If I were to go back to HS and make up my choice between college and a trade job I would have gone with a trade job that my Hs offered welding or mechanic or plumber. I went to college to get a BS in Applied math ans graduated deft free but people with those trade jobs make much more than one with a College degree
Removing all the bs liberal arts degrees would help out a lot.
Paused community college to buy a house during the recession . Bought a house for 90k in Florida working fast food and housekeeping…went back to school for a two year degree. I made 128k last year.
Universities aren’t needed. Skills are
*Has College Degree*
*applies for a job*
*still get’s paid minimum wage*
I genuinely want to know if your not trying to be a lawyer, doctor, anything in STEM , a teacher what is worth going into 200k in debt for unless you have a scholarship or rich parents for anyone that’s in college and has loans and not doing those 4 or 5 majors that really pay why even bother ?
The only degrees that pays well are STEM related degrees, Doctors or Judicial. The other ones are just for hobbies lik art, music and social science.
MBA’s? CPA’s? Trade school?
@Math is not for the faint of heart MBA’s degrees will only matter if you got it from an IVY League/Top Tier school. Most of the companies will going to hire Accounting/Data science hybrids than just regular CPA’s.
@Hammers Charlie That is a good point.
Loan money killed education. It created incentives that had nothing to do with education and everything to do with making a profit…
in Germany, Univ is free, so is health-care, oh and they pay your living expenses while you got to school AND give you a computer. For real. Germany does this after losing a war. Think the US can’t afford this? Of course they can. Its just the mindset… US politicians ‘think’ they can’t afford it, they’re priority (not talking about Bernie or Biden) isn’t the people.
This is why school snd college and never teach you about money and credit score. They want to you to blindly be in debt all your life and work for somebody else 9-5
I got nothing but debt and my youth stolen from me going to college aka University of California Santa Cruz years ago, back in 2007. I’ve never used my degree because no one would hire me for a job in my degree field. Just create your own job and/or start your own business!
What did you major in?
3:05 if you’re going to go to college, those 2 are the best majors to get a high paying job and that’s it!
Yeah good luck with that.
3:40 not true! getting a college does not mean you get a high paying job!
Unless you have a degree for something very specific (dentist, nurse, teacher, etc) your degree will get you nowhere. Its important to be realistic if you decide to attend college and choose something that will actually help you get a job. If not, your money literally goes down the toilet
2-years of a four year is useless I have a job paying 17/hr and I’m learning new techniques and recipes all the time no education neeeded
I’m only going to community college to expand my learning, not for my career 🙏
I regret not my birth… but the TIME of my birth..
As a recent Stem graduate. My advice to new college students is to
1. Be sure you like your major
2. Make sure there is a demand for your major
3. Have a plan for after you graduate
4. Don’t take summer classes. Instead, find an internship or summer job that relates to your field
5. Always keep your Linkin and resume updated (!!Always be revising your resume!!)
6. Go to all career fairs and job interviews. Even though you might not like the job but interview experience is essential.
7. If you are on academic probation at least twice in one year or just unhappy. Take a break, reflect, explore other options. (School isn’t for everyone and it’s ok)
8. Join clubs that relate to your field
9. Study abroad
10. Look for a part time job on campus early
Some of the stuff on this list is just wrong. Joining a club and studying abroad is a huge waste of time. Most people don’t “like” there major they pick it because it’s what provides job security.
Young kids run its to late for us 🥹
Truth is most people go to college to party
Do you 100% believes Hollywood? Lol that’s why higher education is necessary
Omg, people with college degrees are in debt their whole life and once they get it… They ended up without a job anyway and you all know it!!!
We’ll literally go get another person from a different country and hire them over you lol 😆😂😂😂
this is a minority privilege country.. JUST SAY YOU ARE MEXICAN OR BLACK and get whatever JOB YOU WANT… only WHITES AND ASIANS HAVE TO GO TO SCHOOL
You forget Arabs
And mooooooooooo slimmes
The REAL PROBLEM… is … you can GET A JOB AT MC DONALDS make $15+ and also GET MORE FREE MONEY 💰 FROM GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS… free rent, free food, free childcare,/school, free free free with just a minimum wage job.
McDonald’s + government free ebt food, free shelter, free gas, free child care, free or no taxes due to low income wage earners… etc. why become a DOCTOR 👩⚕️… when you can go to McDonald’s and get free government money
Facebook education or bot? Account made last month, lol def a bot.
Other than a few professional jobs, skip college, make connections.
John 5:24
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
I remember the recession in the early 2000s during George Bush jr’s term and people were burning up their degrees.
A well paying stable job means something different to everyone. 95% of jobs I consider to be a stable well paying job require a degree to even be in consideration.
I’m working to pay for college upfront in cash, and I feel like many don’t understand what it feels like to work years to pay for something. When someone gets college first and then works, they don’t have the option to just go,” wait actually, I’d rather just have the money.” If I want, I could just decide I’m not going to college and hold onto my life changing amount of money. You’ll have to work eventually, so might as well just work to make the money for college beforehand.
WDF three classes cause $6000 for accounting major
Go. Into. Trades. Immediate job and lifetime job security.
I question it and I have multiple degrees!!!!
This is the absolutely the truth. I obtained a Bachelors and a Masters and I should’ve picked up a trade. Honestly, jobs are specifically looking for certain skill sets.
Wow, you don’t say.
Before I watch this video, it’s safe to say
Please avoid For Profit Schools At All Cost!! Please! (SJVC is alright though) but, remember we have public schools : ) with cafeterias 🎶
America is the definition of greed!… also the definition of freedom? who knows anymore😞 4 more years until my debt is paid off. Students really need better options.
Degree apprenticeship nowadays offer a wide range of career options
The Value of your degrees is worthless, the issue is 85% of the classes you are made to take have nothing to do with your degree and the other 15% is so out dated, you realize that the class was worthless and the professor didn’t know Sh—IT
College degree is the new high school diploma, nowadays.
Sure, a 4 year degree in aeronautical engineering is a glorified high school diploma. You certainly didn’t go to college
I majored in Mass Media and Communications, and I became an IT Project Manager for the government. And you don’t need a degree for Project Management, just experience and certs. A degree only shows you can learn on a higher level; very rarely will you get a job in your major unless it’s health, law, or engineering of some sort.
America wages war on the poor, not poverty
You can’t vet out a college before you’re asked to spend a lot of money on it. You have no idea what you’re getting into and often times, you still don’t know until you’re years into a career field, which sometimes isn’t even affiliated to the degree received!!!
IS COLLEGE WORTH IT? Well, You first have to learn the truth about the career your looking to get in to. Is it a booming field? Is their plenty of seats and open positions? Is their a lot of hiring? You first have to understand if your career is that which will see an opportunity for you to have a career in. 2nd. Is the college your going to support that career? and more important, how many of its graduating students get jobs upon graduating. what is that college turn around rate, Does recruiters come to the school for hiring annually? YOU must know the success percentages for that schools graduating classes. Does the field your looking into even require a degree? One of the main reasons for getting a college degree was to validate your basic knowledge of that field. Which not only warrants upon you that of being hired, but also contest to that of your pay rate, as some places would make the excuse that your education does not warrant you a higher position and higher rate of pay. The last thing in favor FOR going to college mostly rides upon social contact. making friends and connections. outside of this factor, most of what you would learn in school, you can learn at your local library or for that matter, online. With the current cost of todays colleges and the amount of debt people fall into, i would say try to get the job without the degree. if you do, then your set.. no life struggle in deep crippling debt.
colleges is a revolving debt door.
So are new cars….but people are falling for it every time
I disagree with Biden on most things but I must agree on free community college. No student loan forgiveness. Atleast you save 2 years of tuition
I went to college on a scholarship for good grades back in 99, funded by the lottery. I’m guessing they got super greedy over the past 20 years and now the same scholarship I received years ago is extremely hard to get. There’s no way I could have afforded college if not for that scholarship. And I’m
41 now and my current job has nothing to do with my degree.
Yet you still see job offers asking for a degree for a very basic role.
Good!
colleges barely teach you anything these days anyway 🤷♂
Press S to spit!
I work in IT. making nearly 6 figures. with associate degree. only Computer Certifications.
Degree is not needed as much. for some things yet. but not all
Would you recommend a coding bootcamp?
White collar lies.
Blue collar truth.
All news reporters have a college degree yet all news lies.
Old news was blue collar and told the truth.
White collar = censorship!
Blue collar = Truth!
Not worth it for me, I opted for a trade school instead, it was nothing to pay back the little amount of money back, I’m debt free, I own my home, cars, I have my kids, and we live well off. The money is great. I’m an electrician. You can do this too..
Trade school is also college in my view. If you are a state certified electrician, you are set to go.
Uniquely American=slave.
*At this point we’re all unmotivated & lazy*
why does it matter if Biden is going to forgive it?
FOLLOW YOUR PASSION NO MATTER WHAT.
I don’t like higher education. I don’t go to the university. It’s expensive. I’m over 18-39 due to age limits. I’m not allowed. There’s no way I can get to the future. I dislike the 21st century.
Let the Tic tok idiots runing the advancement of humanity. SM makes ppl think they can sit around and dance in front of the camera an make millions. Educatoin is about moving humanity forward and ensuring the next generation is smarter and more capable than the previous. College is a way to prove that. Cost must be dealt with though.
Hahaha..when you major in stupid stuff… what do you expect ?
“You can make a million dollars more over your lifetime.”
And how much of that gets eaten up by student loan debt?
Under the trump Administration you would of paid less for food cost of living and gas but you idiots wanted to vote for incompetents and its your fault for voting for it.
And as expected the comments show that many Americans would LOVE to go to college. But it is expensive. Add to this the fact that finding aplrenticeships for the Trades is actually hard, so many people who want to become welders or mechanics need to at least do a certificate program in college. Which costs money. Apprenticeships for trades have gone down it appears.
If you don’t want college go to a trade school
This is a ‘little prince harry’ with limitless for the God of Life Hardship
“uniquely American” is just another way of saying how backwards it is
If you go to college for anything with the word “Arts” or “Studies”.. you kinda have no right to complain about not finding a job. Its only worth it if you go for a stem degree. Engineering degrees are more appealing to employers than Fine arts or Gender studies
They can wait until the bottom falls out if they like. But not clearing debt will really tear the U.S up. As you see we are already behind the other countries in education this will have a snowball effect. They will have to bring educated people in to run this country if we are not careful
I have the GI Bill and will be working towards my ComSci Degree with a Cyber Operations Track. I’ll be okay.
Internet it’s the biggest library in history.
I got a Bachelors degree, I tried to get a job with my degree and was unsuccessful. I did graduate in 2008 which didn’t help but it’s not doing s$@t for me still. It’s too expensive, but some people can still find it advantageous. For me though it has been a bust. My fault or not lol
You got a degree in what exactly?
College degree is worth it only if the tuition cost is FREE. The state of California should designate University of California at Riverside and University of California at Merced as the only UC campuses with FREE tuition for all income levels, in order to balance the population/demand ratio with the top-ranking UC campuses together, like Berkeley and Los Angeles.
I am all in for free tuition on only one condition: You fail a course, you pay! Nothing is free in life. It’s tax payers money. You better study and pass!
After my second semester and about $10k of out of pocket cost, I dropped out of college and got a job in sales. At 20 I made 80k and at 21 I made 92k. A degree in a business related field would definitely help me get into a better sales job or into a higher sales management position but I don’t think it will keep me from earning more or moving up the ladder. Who knows, I guess in 10 years time I’ll find out.
One reason housing is so expensive is theres not enough people working in trades to build new housing.
I dropped out in my sophomore year. I have several friends who have Bachelors degrees and a few who have masters, one even has an MBA and I make more money than all of them. In fact, my one friend who has a masters degree struggle alot financially and often ask me to borrow money. This is not a brag! Just illustrating a point that college doesn’t guarantee that you will be well off afterwards. In fact, most college grads live check to check.
Cullage is scam over 80% degrees are worthless Y USA is a cesspool
ONLY way to stop worthless degree is eliminating SERVITUDE LOAS
I work in academia, it has been over 15 years now. First thing I noticed is that there are consistently more females than males. So young men are bailing out? Second thing: There are too many “soft” studies that are not that much relevant for society, when considering these programs to be 4 years. In STEM the males outnumber females and those jobs pay well, along with medical field and accountancy/MBA’s. College is definitely worth it only if you pick relevant fields. Underwater basket weaving and contemporary art appreciation isn’t one of them, neither is gender studies. Another option for people to choose is the trades. A certified electrician (who in my view is college educated!) makes very good money…Choices, choices!
College is too expensive after all you can do you still need to work and pay bills
As a college student it really depends on your degree unfortunately. Some degrees are super useful for jobs and others don’t get you squat. I’m a Spanish major in California so I’m hoping that can help me job-wise. I love learning foreign languages and I’ve always thought that more Americans should learn them. You never know if and when you might travel!
It’s ridiculous when you research how much money the universities make.
