Health officials in California’s Napa County say at least one person is dead and 11 others were sickened by Legionnaires’ disease, which is a type of pneumonia that is caused by the Legionella bacteria. Officials say the rooftop cooling tower at the Embassy Suites Napa Valley was identified as holding “high levels” of the bacteria.

I’ve been wondering about these new window AC units that hold the condensed water and use it to cool the coils. If I haven’t run mine for week or so I notice it smells brackish. Is this safe? I’ve added a little bleach to sanitize mine just in case.
I’m sure that if you live in a hot region like here in central Texas, this water dries up fairly quickly once turned off when going into another room, and visa-versa.

Ok, 1st of all, all the comments on 😷 masks 🙄 … please, STOP. You can’t catch this from PEOPLE. It’s a water based bacteria, such as from a large cooling system that isn’t properly cleaned. I supposed, if you wore a mask 24/7, maybe it would help. 🤔 (You would have to find out what kind of mask you would need.) But who is going to do that? And how would you know the building you are in it has it?
Also, masks protect OTHER people from droplet based illnesses such as covid. You can still catch Covid if the people around you are sick and not masked. The mask catches their droplets as they cough, laugh, sneeze and stops it from spraying the room. That being said, yes it may help you as well. Best example is if you were in a room with someone peeing. If he was naked, the Pee would spray on you and everything. If you are 6 feet from him, that will give you some protection, and if you had pants and shoes on, it would be even better. You may still get a bit wet, though. Now if HE was also wearing pants, then the puddle stays by him and no spray gets on the people around him. That is how regular masks work. It’s the equivalent of both of you wearing pants.
As a nurse, I have never understood why there is such a kickback against wearing masks in public. People don’t get angry because we ask then to wear something to cover their privates in public. What difference is this? And no, it doesn’t affect your breathing. (Although, if you are struggling to breathe, than anything on your face feels scary.) I am an Asthmatic, as are a percentage of other nurses, we can spend hours gowned and covered. Sometimes it is annoying and often time consuming, but we know it is to protect us and our other patients. If we didn’t, we would be spreading C-diff and other nasties to our other patients. I assumed the rest of the world would want to protect each other the same way. It was heartbreaking to find out that is not so.
Bottomline, there’s a lot of factual information on masks and Covid. Please do research and don’t believe everything you watch or hear. Do your research using CDC websites or scientific journals. 😊
