Anwar Ibrahim has been named Malaysia’s new prime minister, marking an incredible comeback for a man who was first lined up for the job in the boom years of the 1990s before he was suddenly sacked and jailed.
Anwar’s Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition won the most seats in the weekend’s election, but no one party or coalition emerged with the 112-seat parliamentary majority necessary to form a government.

2. Reduce asset change hands to 6mths for dying intestate. Why wait DECADES for what???

The Agung is very wise, but this concept of “unity Govt” is a spur-of-the-moment innovation that will need a lot of accommodation and compromise among Malaysian politicians. A cabinet and a Govt made up of all participating parties and all election winners eligible for political office – in effect, it is a Govt with a 100% majority! All parties are forced to moderate their demands and tone down their political doctrines and Anwar will have to try his best to please everyone and to be fair to all. It’s almost unworkable but it’s good as it forces all political enemies to become friends, and in turn, by their example, unite all the different peoples of Malaysia for the first time. It’s either the King’s and Anwar’s most brilliant idea or it’s the most crackpot idea in the history of politics!
