There’s a growing trend of corporate investors buying up single-family homes across the country and then renting them out. In an NBC News investigation, Gabe Gutierrez takes a closer look at one Ohio company that’s come under scrutiny for its property management and eviction practices, with allegations that it’s taking advantage of low-income tenants.

Your org is perhaps invested with them.
Yea its called conspiracy to monopolize. Both are chargeable offenses and both are concepts that are actively working in concert to facilitate the billionaires concious manipulation of systems/people.
Best thing is, it’s a foreign company from a nation that bans Americans from owning real estate.
Who own’s Vinebrook? Got to be a psychopathic individual only out for him/her self. Enough of corporate owning homes. This is a no-go and hopefully Vinebrook goes out of business soon.
Yeah, 4 out of 5 renew leases because they own all the homes nearby. What other choice do the folks have?
Who owns Vinebrook?
Burn down the houses until they cannot afford insurance fight back
Capitalism moving toward it’s final stage Techno Feudalism on the double time.
Landlords are the most greedy yet lazy bums, be it corporated or private. I dont know how long until people realize that land/residential land is non-creatable, limited natural resources which need to be limited in ownership? BAN “SECONDARY” residential home ownership, or heavily TAX “secondary” home, is the easy solution to this and to affordable housing. Investments need to be taken to manufacturing/producing goods & meaninhful services, not in holding “land/housing” hostage and enslaving rentees.
But
I just read of a young mother who killed herself jumped before a train with her three-year-old because she didn’t have enough money to pay her rent.
It is predatory investors thirsty for money and power.
So her place is available?
Modern gilded age!!!
Of course this is happening, the plandemic was a hostel takeover of everyone’s life thats not in the Big Club. Also you might want to start questioning all those shots you took because most likely your futures not looking to good there either, and a lot of truth was suppressed, but they were selling fear and you bought it sight unseen.
Then buy or build your own home
The evil and inhumanness of corporate greed in our world is out of control. Sad it’s very sad
Bricks through windows, arson, etc
This is seriously one of the largest problems right now in America. I have absolutely no expectations that Congress will act on behalf of the people
I run public utilities, this madness needs to stop. Seems every time we have an issue, we can’t get ahold of the owner. This turns a 30 min job into an ordeal that lasts days…. these investors waste our time and your tax dollars!
It should be against the law for companies to own property’s.
I’m surprised more communities and HOAs don’t push for owner occupied homes over corporate owned. They fight tooth and nail against rentals being built or AirBNBs but not a peep about these awful corporate landlords who bring a lot of the same issues.
I deliver food. One of the million dollar home HOA’s I visit has a big sign at the entrance:” Warning, $1000 a day fine for renting.” They mean business. No renting of any kind. The rentals turn the neighborhood in to trash.
Corporate greed has gone unchecked for too long. Families can’t even purchase homes to raise their families in anymore & it’s just sad.
4 out of 5 because they have no one else to rent from. Why is this legal.
Got to love corporate America extorting people left and right. But at some point there will be no more extortion because no one can afford anything anyway witch is already happening but in a small scale. Remember business owners food will always be 1st place the money goes not rent not credit cards not luxuries and specially not loans.
I bet some of these corporations buy up these homes so they can turn around and bundle them up as securities to sell on the market. I remember this movie from before, say 15 years ago. It didn’t end so well…
Just burn the houses down
Poor victim. 🙄 Years ago my landlord raised my rent. I couldn’t afford it and moved out. I didn’t think of complaining.
wow. they’re straight up predatory.
They got to stop these investors to abuse the ppl
Capitalism working as intended
They need to stop people from these investors, buying up these homes and putting people out in the street. So sad.
These corporate investors are the pigs of satan. Pure evil buying up the lower income homes and doubling the rents. Both Republicans and Democrats are beholden to these huge corporations and the working poor are destroyed. Even two plus jobs they cannot afford the inflated rents let alone dream of owning their own home. These mega-predators should be banned from buying up low income properties just to rent out. First time buyers who want to live in the home and renters who are being preyed upon need help NOW Biden!! (Falling on deaf, corporate bought ears)
Put pressure on your politicians
Maybe, if during the pandemic, the government didn’t tell people you don’t have to pay your rent, owners wouldn’t sell their properties to corporations. In Oakland, they’re still restricting evictions. If you owned a couple houses, would you rent to someone there, knowing you couldn’t get rid of them if they didn’t pay?
Exactly landlord rights need to be taken seriously if you don’t want to have to deal with a corporation when you rent a home.
This should be ILLEGAL for Corporations to buy residential homes. So sick
My things is why not have more resources for people with low income to own their own home.all these singles home it’s a shame. I’ve always believed when there’s will there’s always a way. As a singles mom of four I managed to own two properties with income tax and prioritize on what I spend money on .I spend four years getting my clothes at good will salvation army. I go to food pantries even though now I can effort it I still go to those places
What Ohio? Did you forget? Corporations are people too!!!!!!!! 🤭
Capitalism at it’s finest. NOT brilliant Ms. Large corporations finding loop holes is not okay at lower income families expense.
This country only gets worse every year.. I wish people cared about other human beings here and now, like they do those not born.. we could care less families being evicted by some corporate monster! ITS SICK
Yes, this is the future ……… The agenda til they squeeze every drop out of us on our way to be a third world it’s been in a works for a while. All about a better way to do things LOL……. Just like any other corp run profit center cash flow and grab….
The American way. Take money from the feds at 0 % interest. Buy up all the homes. Throw out the poor and elderly in the worse resesion since the Great Depression
This is why capitalism always fails
Corporate home owners will become one of the top three reasons for the decline of wealth for the next 50 yrs.
Nothing can be done. They just pay the politicians off. The people getting screwed again.
Corporate greed knows no limit, except the government clamping down. Remember that when the rightwing “offers” “less government”.
How is this even legal ?
Any house that was built with government backed loans should be price regulated.
And of course when the market tanks, which they likely engineered, there is a huge move from people owning their homes to renting.
welcome to corporate America ,population ,screwed !
The American nightmare is realized.
My 👀 are clearly focused on the ongoing depression.
Today’s landlords are completely out of control.
If their actions aren’t criminal, it’s close.
They’re determined to do “ANYTHING THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH.”
Abolish Tax Write-offs guys
Rent control now! End gentrification!
The federal government put the mom and pops out of business on these corporate owner request now there is no limit to what they will charge or how they will treat tenants just like what happened with mom and pops shops
There’s been more than growing concern
Nothing compares to Las Vegas… from $1100 to $1700 in one year! No upgrades and repairs are needed! Afraid to ask because they’ll put you out!!!
…it should be illegal for corporations to own personal rental properties…even the small LLCs are predatory and abusive, both are known for slapping a coat of paint on moldy walls, faking lead paint certificates, raising rent on people who get any type of rental assistance because it’s easy money and using goon tactics to avoid repairs….incorperation speaks volumes about rental property owners, and none of it is good….
“You vill own nothing. And you vill… be… happy…”
Monopolies, people.
Eat the rich, start with the executives at vinebrook
This is criminal, they are going to monopolize the entire housing market. “You will own nothing and be happy with it”
But wait our politicians/mayors will surely do something!! Right ??….. right?….
And when they won’t do repairs, what recourse do the middle and lower class have? 😔
Gotta love capitalism lol
Why aren’t elected officials doing anything to protect the very asset that has enabled this country to build a middle class to begin with? Insane how corporations are even allowed to own single family residences.
WHAT?, corporations taking advantage of average working class people. News! It’s really time to put these corporations to the grindstone
Incentive selling to First time homebuyers! Waive taxes, Waive a % of taxes on the next home the seller purchases. Whatever it is make them want to sell to first time homebuyers
This should be illegal for corporate greed in single family
Ohio voted RED, this is what you get. Enjoy!
This is the State greed no humanity, everything everyone is a number. Colonizers live their lives by numbers, but numbers have no end, the greed n inhumanity will never end. Capitalism is Racism.
Very dystopian
Yup, i am glad this is getting attention. These investors buy up these homes, rent them; Two end results, they take away the housing inventory from first time home buyers. Now the former buyers will need to rent out an artificially inflated rental price. And they wonder why the state begins to interfere with their business. The unthoughtful greedy @ holes don’t consider what can turn to a consequence. An idea, the investors who already own actual rental homes are exempt but any future potential buys should be forbidden. The investors should only focus on developing or buying multifamily units.
P.S
I am not against making money or developing to become financial rich. I am just against people who make it and allow their emotions, greed, to overtake their ambitions.
What would be really cool (if it was possible) if a whole mess of people could somehow make COMPANIES lives miserable!!
Your congressman has been bribed to allow this.
In many cases, your congressman is a shareholder in the corporation that did this to you.
This is what happens when you vote deregulations thanks for nothing republicans 🤬
Perhaps fewer private landlords wouldn’t have given up their properties had the government kept their nose out of the rental business during the pandemic
This so saddening. God is in control. He sees everything and hears everything. His people are getting ready to suffer no more. He looks at your heart and not like man with the outside appearance!👐
This is when I wish the Punisher was a real person. The people doing this don’t belong on this earth.
Pay the rent and take care of the house and you’ll never be evicted. No landlord will evict a great tenant. There’s more to this story but apparently it didn’t fit the narrative.
Another Black City being destroyed with governmental assistance. Black Americans NEED a Reservation. We have been attacked as we build for centuries.
Their not going to stop until we unite and stand against them
Someone once said, people will own nothing and be happy about it, I’m not sure what phase they are in but it’s almost complete
This is late stage unregulated capitalism folks. Remind me again why doing it this way is so wonderful for all of us?
Corporate landlords should be legally banned from from owning single family homes period!
Same people own MSM.
We should definitely have laws that help the average person become a home owner. The rent madness from the rich is getting insane and it is pushing up demand/pricing for housing. There should be laws against this greed.
Gee im so surprised
“4 out of 5 tenants renew each year” Uhhh yeah, its a house not a pony. They’d rather not be homeless.
And why is people not protesting in the streets against this…people flooded the streets for other things. I wonder…
Local cities should tax hard those land lords and use the taxes to improve a home buying assistance program.
Don’t like this? STOP VOTING REPUBLICAN.
that is dem kid but blame the people that help you. but hey your brain wash clearly we had 2 years of dem so far and the entire world is in shambles but your blind.
Greed
We need regulation. There should be a cap on the number of rentals a corporation can manage our own.
“You’ll own nothing and be happy”. People need to understand the WEF for the evil force it is.
Wow an entire industry predicated on people being too poor to even hire a lawyer
Bring back the American Dream for everyone and ban corporations from taking it from us & the country will be great again.
This is an antitrust issue. These corporations either have a monopoly of home ownership in an area, thereby controlling prices, or the have colluded with other home owning corporations to keep prices up instead of competing via pricing. The least that should happen is an investigation from the FTC. And people should sue for emotional distress over the untimely and unjustified evictions.
Yet, she voted for Biden.
You will own nothing and be happy!!!!
Has anyone notice when dems take office we hear this issue hmmm makes you wonder why people keep voting for them unless it’s just bots voting.
I personally lived in an apartment run by a big corporation. They towed my car from my own rented parking stall, and forced me to pay $300 to get it back in time for work even though I parked it in my own spot that I payed for. The complex was growing black mold everywhere in every apartment, to the point where people were moving in and 1 month later their couches and furniture would be covered with mold. There were also cockroach and stray animal problems. To top it off, homeless people that were high were consistently knocking on my door for information about how to rent (because their office was 24/7 locked and I was the closest door). They had no respect for us at all. It was a studio for about $2K a month, not including extra fees in downtown SLC. But the law around here dictates that what they were doing was fine as long as they cleaned the mold off when it shows up. What a joke.
our rent went up from 900 to 1300. its impossible to pay for
These homes all look like fire hazards to me..
