When speaking about treating victims from the Michigan State University mass shooting, Dr. Denny Martin, interim president and chief medical officer at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, broke down in tears in an emotional moment. Martin said he “didn’t get a lot of sleep” and spoke about how proud he was of the hospital staff on a “sad” night.

I seen him break down on the evening news and oh my GOD I started crying 😭😭😭 to DEATH is so hard to fathom it’s honestly incomprehensible we don’t even really know why it has to happen this way these students were just babies 😭😭😭😭 just honestly so young I know their parents are ANGRY oh my GOD my sincerest prayers condolences and apologies I am immensely SORRY beyond SORRY 😔😔🙏😭

Trauma Units can be extremely high stress environments where the staff sees way too much bad stuff happen. I don’t know how they do it over a long period of time without psychological damage. Tough people in tough jobs

To the doctor – The shooter was arrested in 2019 for felony illegal carry of a handgun. The felony charge was dropped by the DA Carol Simon and given a misdemeanor with only 1 year of probation instead of going to jail. So this felon got an illegal gun and three people are DEAD now because of this DA. Michigan is not safe!

What a telling video; a surgeon, often considered the toughest of the tough in health care, breaking down speaks volumes. Our health care system is breaking apart. Health care workers are stressed, grieving, and forever damaged by the suffering they treat each day. They have PTSD, addictions, depression and they commit suicide. And so much of it is unnecessary, caused by aggrieved, violent men with weapons. We can change this. We must.

If more people had access to guns there would be less tragic loss. The only way these victims would have a chance against an attacker with a gun is with a gun themselves.
