@Angela Cahill That’s the necessities, things that the kids need. Have you thought about extra/outside things that the kids WANT? If they want to do extra circulars, like travel, sports, music, art, things that make life enjoyable etc. The parents are just as important because they are raising these human beings and they experience burnout. Parents should be able to still have an enjoyable life while raising their kids. Don’t forget these youths in SK who refuse to have kids are highlighting the fact that they cannot afford the necessities of raising a kid. It’s not even about materialism, it’s about survival. The real selfishness is when people make kids when they can’t afford it. Money isn’t the only factor dissuading the youths, it is also mental, emotional and physical health.

And funny how now that there is widespread wealth, unlimited opportunity, and a concept of “retirement”, the youth don’t want the joy, unconditional love, and responsibility of children and especially parents. The common issue is education cost for children is high.

@Andres Mattos Sure they were having 6+ kids back then despite being poorer. The difference is the cost of living is different now. It is possible to raise kids in poverty to adulthood, but just because you CAN doesn’t mean you should. Modern day South Koreans can have kids and raise them to adulthood despite struggling, but they refuse to, and rightfully so.

I would agree there is not a big country small at best and everyone kinda lives on top of each other.
If you want couples to have more kids, you need to give them financial reasons to do so….. give couples 10 years of tax exemption every-time they get a child. Give each child $500 per month until age 18. Just those two things would drastically increase the birth rate. Throw in free child care as a cherry on top and a $100k baby bond…. and you’ll be FLOODED with babies. Other option is to bring less educated people from 3rd world nations/developing nations, they’ll also increase the child birth rate.
Financial reasons? So you want to be paid for what humans do which is build a family and continue the human race? Wtf?

I would say countries like Korea and Japan will suffer from population growth because they don’t allow immigration first of all. I also understand that people are overwhelmed with work in these nations.
Look at Mexico 🇲🇽, Vietnam 🇻🇳, Brazil , Thailand 🇹🇭. Their population has remained study at best with growth. Immigration plays a role in it.
