The Cannes Film Festival this year honours women.
For the first time, a third of the competing movies are directed by female filmmakers.
But it has opened with a controversial one, Jeanne du Barry, directed and portrayed by French director Maïwenn and starring American actor Johnny Depp.
It tells the story of French King Louis XV’s favourite mistress.
Al Jazeera’s Charlie Angela sat down with Johnny Depp and Maïwenn in Cannes, France.
