A state of emergency is in place in Canada as wildfires ravage thousands of acres across Nova Scotia. Officials say the area has already seen more blazes in 2023 than all of last year. NBC’s Valerie Castro reports.

Why aren’t there enough firefighters?
@trizer.9974 correct and we are very fortunate to have such people willing to put themselves at risk day or night, summer or winter. We owe them a huge Thank You for their dedication and bravery .
because there are wildfires burning in 6 provinces and a territory, soon quebec will light up too.
@Alice Pooper Happier that your forest are burning down at an alarming rate because you don’t have enough emergency staff to put out the fires? Man you’re really sick.
The last big fire in Alberta.Russia was going to send there water bombers. They have the biggest water bombers in the world.Canada refused there help.
@Amos Simon learn the difference between their and there.
Don’t worry, Trudeau will accuse the trees of dropping pine cones in the shape of swastikas and shame the fires out.
too bad they couldn’t set it farther away.
come on syrup suckers, you have so much land and unused space vs people…. you could have a massive fire and never have to fight it if it was far enough away.
Who peed in your cornflakes? Nova Scotia is the most densely populated province in the country. The fires are in a heavily populated area and thousands of people are being evacuated. Get back under your bridge, troll.
It is widely known that dead wood and other fallen branches form a dried fuel supply in the forest understory. This fuel increases the heat, speed, and severity of a fire.
However, a species of endomychorrizal fungi named glomus, spp. extends widely in the forest floor and digests the dead wood, thus reducing this fuel, and feeding it to the living trees. IMHO, this organism should be more widely used in sound forest management practices.
Forests fires are completely natural, I don’t think impacting/engineering the ecosystem is a good idea. Climate will make those events more frequent and more severe. Almost 80% of fires are actually started by humans, we need to raise awareness on this ASAP.
Hurricane Fiona caused massive amounts of trees to be blown over last fall. Those dead trees have since seasoned as we have less snow at Winter then before and a warn spring.
President Trump had it right for California Wildfire Managment… Clear All Dead Wood from the Forest Floor…🌲🌲🌲🌲
@box the cause in California was the power company PG&E wasn’t properly maintaining the treeline and dead wood from around their power lines. Most of these fires are of anthropogenic origin and the dry and hotter climate males them get out of control fast.
@poison7512 exactly mulch determines how much moisture soils can retain between rains
This is crime against humanity. Can the whole world ask for carbon tax in this case?
It’s justice served upon humanity…
@yourallsinners1 Fair enough
@yourallsinners1 Pretty deep thoughts coming from someone who obviously struggles with the difference between YOUR and YOU’RE.
@mikexhotmail Fair enough? So you agree? Interesting how it’s justice when things happen to OTHER people. I bet if YOUR house burned to the ground you would start your own gofundme to replace your magic cards and harry potter books.
Living in this province and Canada I have to agree with the OP statement / but then again I am on the RIGHT side of the line 😉
As the climate heads into greater extremes globally, how can we best deal with future climate crises?
The short answer is that we cannot deal with them unless we take care of nature’s inner balance.
We live in a tightly-closed and interdependent system in which everything boomerangs back to us. While living in such a system, we need to reconsider what we want and think, and how we treat each other, because our human connections are the primary influence on how nature responds to us.
It is common to think that climate is dependent on factors outside of us—whether it be balances between heat and cold in the environment, or the effects of various kinds of pollution we emit—because we lack a complete picture of how our attitudes to each other bring about the strongest responses from nature toward us.
No creature distorts nature the way that we people do. And it is not simply a matter of switching to renewable energy sources, electric cars and the like; it is a matter of how we relate to each other.
If we truly wish to witness more balance throughout nature and not have to deal with all kinds of cold waves and other natural disasters, then similarly to how we have electricity, water and gas meters in our homes, we should also have meters that count how much evil we emit into the world from our negative attitudes to each other. What I mean is that if we could feel the extent to which we emit negative forces into the world, which negatively ricochet back to us, then we would wish to change this negative driver within us. We would want to switch it to a drive that makes our human connections positive, and which harmonizes us with nature.
In simple terms, when we get up in the morning, we should first and foremost consider what we need to do in order for all people to have it good. Developing such an attitude is not so simple, yet we will need to seriously work on it as we head into the future. A life of increasing blows from nature or a life of peace and harmony depends on the extent to which we impact a shift in our attitudes to each other—from negative to positive.
The elephant in the room is overpopulation. We are negative to each other because we are rats crowded together in a cage.
And controlled burning will be even more needed as a tool. Not just for us but the forests and the forests residence.
@Everything Matters Birth rates are dropping globally, its about riding out that tide in the mean time.
I hope the US gov sends all the help our northern neighbor needs.
US Terrorist country busy in helping Ukraine with weapons…US in history has no record of helping other countries in trouble…
@Anand well that’s a blatant lie.
We have waterbombers coming from Montana and firefighters coming from New England. You guys are the best neighbors ever. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
@C E US Terrorist Country Helping 10 people and killing millions of innocent people only tells US is a psycho terorrist country…Whole World knew about this…
SOMEBODY WAKE SLEEPY JOE AND LET HIM KNOW
Halifax is my hometown. I know it well. The Tantallon area is a newly developed suburban tract house area.
Thirty years ago it was nothing but woods, it was bought as a lot and turned into hew housing developments.
In the woods. Then this happens. Build a house in a former forest you have to expect this might happen.
As well there is a lot of dead, dry wood from Hurricane Fiona. The warm summer weather is here and it lights.
Everything was once a ‘former forest’.
well what better way to push the LEFT agenda of 15 minute cities than to burn the out skirts :/ and yes I live there too 😛
@T Rizer. That added nothing.

A total eclipse of the sun
What happened
Australia has sent 250 fire-fighters with more on the way!!
These guys are extremely experienced at fighting wild/ bush fires!!
@trizer.9974 Canada sent fire-fighters to Australia during our huge bush fires in 2019/20!!
Thank you 🙏
Thank you from NS!!
@Mr Dredd.. We have not forgotten. .
Fantastic proud of our fire fighters, we need a to have more conversation about prevention as well. We have experts in that matter with thousands of years experience after all.
I thought it was cold up there 😢
In the winter months, yes, but the spring and summer months get very warm. Here in Nova Scotia we are just across the basin from Maine and New Hampshire. You should come visit some day, if all the beauty doesn’t burn away
@Ricky & Gandi Yes we do!! Have a beautiful day my dear 💖🤗💖
@][zaak C]̶[̶ay Praying for y’all 💔🙏😞
Our record high was 49.6 Celsius (about 121-122 F) almost 2 years ago at Lytton, British Columbia. That town burned down the next day.
It gets very hot up here especially in the summer
Hope everyone makes it out ok.
(Air hug)
All by design.
Canada is in American news!!! (Me, a Canadian, excited)

It’s time to fire on up 🔥🌎🔥🌎🔥🌎
Oh man CANADA hasnt been sweeping up the leaves and brussh from their forest floors either? Lolol just kidding im an adult with a functioning brain.
Your description is a little dramatic, it’s not burning across Canada…for Christ sake, stop scaring people!
I know people there and it’s not as bad as the media portray!
It’s very bad!! It worse than all of the forest fires in the past 18 years combined in N.S.
Actually, it is worse. Ontario. Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia are all experiencing this. We have thousands of fires and each year is worse due to drought and rising heat. The forests and grasslands have always experienced fires but the changing climate is being felt. Here in BC we are already well into fire season and dreading if we get another heat dome like in 2021 where the highest temp was 49.6 Celsius at Lytton(121-122 F); Lytton burned to the ground the next day.
Just curious, have you ever been near a big forest fire or been swamped by the smoke or seen the sun at noon burning orange in an orange sky. I have, including in a large urban area.
Can we (US) send help for them? Prayers are not enough.
Its going as we speak.
To avoid death by hurricane wildfires tornadoes floods more mag 6 earthquake tsunami volcano lightnings hailstones meteor non-Muslims to convert to Islam and Muslims to apply the Quran 100% in North and South America in Europe in Asia in Pacific Ocean in Africa May 31, 2023.
200 firefighters for 2000 acres? So each fire fighter is going to control 10 acres? Sounds like it’s going to get much bigger.
Well they fired all the unjabbed ones.
Dead wood is not a problem. It’s lack of large trees and good top soil allowing moisture to disappear and higher spring temps to light what’s left and the houses all around it. Here in NB, there are more fallen trees than standing trees in many places for manu years. Not one is dry, but small trees and sticks, or the millions of small softwood trees planted by the industry? These are man made conditions, the same way the temperature that feeds the fire is man made.
@Al Electric You aren’t saying anything, but what you are trying to say isn’t correct.
Hurricane Fions in Sept caused massive amounts if trees to be blown over. So they are dead and are seasoned so they are like a torch if any flame gets close.
It is a factor for sure.
@NovaScotiaNewfie I’ve known places where there are more dead trees than living, and they have been there my whole life, always wet.
@MrLoobu If so all the more reason for intervention, the same drive that creates mess can be applied to fix mess. We need to think about forest manegment tactics now, not just emissions.
@R A Clark It’s too late for that. The more trees burn the hotter, drier, more windy the climate becomes, making more trees burn. We can’t even stop them, let alone control when and how much. We triggered it, now we get to watch. If every Canadian was a full-time forest ranger, we still couldn’t change it. Most of the effects are coming from burns all over the world.
Mama Nature Never gets tires.
The Northeast is drier now then when I was a kid. It would be humid every summer day with frequent thunderstorms – but no more.
This is what happens when authoritarian governments put “green” policies in place with massive red tape that hinders controlled burns and other forestry management procedures. This is also why California is constantly on fire but Texas isn’t.
F**king NDP are working overtime on this one.
Maybe ricky,Julian and bubbles should quit growing weed.
Hope the tpb are good.
I caused the wild fires
GOD bless all “Firemen”.
That video was so realistic because who actually speaks English in Canada 😂
What the f*** does that mean. You insulting us?
I loved “Rick Mercer Talking to Americans”. Your comment reminded me of this hilarious skit.
@Ken I’m with you!
Canada is in the top 5 for most educated country in the world. 90% speak English. Eh.
I live in Colorado and the smoke reached all the way here
That smoke was from the Alberta and Northern Sask fires. Northern Winds pushed it down.
NJ had smoke this morning I thought we had a forest fire smoke came from Nova Scotia ,sad such a beautiful place
Will it grow back?
Fires are a natural element in forests and grasslands. Nutrients are released and they regenerate. I am in British Columbia and we have hundreds of fires in a year, many burning now. Drought conditions have been increasing across the country so we expect more burning.
Hiyas,
I live in Halifax. The fire in Tantallon has destroyed 151 homes, two daycares, and several businesses. There’s a new fire burning just a few miles north of Taantallon, and the Shelburne fire is the largest in Nova Scotia’s recorded history. Oh, and the fire chief is a buddy of mine. We were in the army together.
I could see the haze in the air and smell the smoke in Rhode Island yesterday.
Same here.. I’m in Providence. It was pretty thick in the air..🍻
Why are people even driving through it !!!!!@
Evacuation, to get away from it.
There should be no more fires allowed anywhere !!!
I live near the fire and it is heartbreaking.
🙏🚒🧑🚒
HOW IS IT CAUSED?
@Daya Whitaker It is still under ivastigation but it is man made.
@Julia Ibrahim THIS WORLD SUCKS.
@Daya Whitaker No doubt. It is scary.
Just remember, Trudeau doesn’t care at all!
Not enough snow, dry hot weather, climate change, pollution. But at least oil execs continue to rake in profits.
No such thing as global warming
Good thing ‘cos if there was things like this would be a lot worse.
Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change. Climate change.
RESCUE THE ANIMALS!!!!!!!!
Lucky there is no such thing as climate change or things like this would be a lot worse.
Hope all my family and friends are safe back in NS love from Edmonton!
causes: HUMAN
Western Canadian fires have decreased in the last couple of weeks. The percentage of human caused fires is disgusting!
It’s your government doing it, not governement, but people above the governement. The real governement
@Auxxard 🙄
Hurricane Fiona blew down massive amounts of trees in NS. These dead trees seasoned / dried out due to less snowfall the winter and warm spring. So there is lots of dried dead trees as fuel.
😢
This fire happened in Canada and many different countries the people control the economy some company they do it purpose of this fire they made this fire and after that use this for business all the fire happened around the world they do it purpose what happened 2016 they know very well
Fires out west were arson lets hope these are not.. you can bet they were arson sad
Sounds like no via Scotia is going to flood
Too much trees burnt
“Огонь гнем встречают и хворью лечат хворь”. Цитата. Шекспир. РОмео и Джульета. Почему нельзя остановить эту стену огня встречным огнём. Откопать границу и направить встречный огонь и так он погасится. Ветер? Из-за ветра? Столько оружия, у всех – много, а ресурсов ни болезни вылечить, ни лесной пожар остановить нет. Эх! Везде государства не на высоте. Не на то деньги тратят – не тот выбор делают те, кто на у власти.
How did the fire start?
Thank God i’ll be leaving Canada this year.
We cannot combat Climate Change it is inevitable ” “What can governments do to help us live with and survive Climate Change”. China emits 31% of global carbon dioxide are they reducing emissions, I think not. They are building more coal powered plants in 2023 than they did in 2021. Canada emits 1.9% . With our forests we are probably carbon neutral. Asian continent including China emits 53%. Unless these countries reduce emissions , fat chance of that. What we do here is futile. It is a cash grab ( simply) by the Federal Liberals which is hurting Canadians Financially. Smoke and Mirrors by the Liberals. Lies and hypocrisy.
Stay safe ,Becareful
I’m glad that everyone was evacuated.
Burn the big foot out where they at I see one 👀😀
?????? Intentionally set???????????????
People might want to understand – – we have entered in to the ERA of the New One World Order.
There will not be near enough funds – nor near enough People – to rescue – those that are being put into a “Refugee Economy” Globally – – by the Power of New One World Order.
People should have Learned – – based on what ‘so-called prayer’ has been doing to Destroy Ukraine – – but they obviously did not.
Every place with any ‘so-called religion’ – and / or any ‘so-called government ministry’ – is going to find their region under attack – by the POWER of the New One World Order.
This is the ERA – many have referred to as ARMAGEDDON.
Be CLEAR:
There is 🚫❌ NO ‘so-called god’.
Every power ever attributed to any of the thousands of man-made ‘so-called gods’ – – has always been the 🔥💣🧨💨🌊🌪⚡️POWER of the ADVANCED UNIVERSES – which have now unified to DESTROY ALL ‘so-called religion’ and ALL LIES.
There is 🚫❌ NO ‘so-called heaven’.
There will be 🚫❌ NO ‘so-called rapture’.
I suggest People do an inventory – of the DISASTERS taking place Globally.
There is a way for the MULTIVERSE / NEW ONE WORLD ORDER to back off – – People would be Wise to attempt to Understand what the Plan of the NEW ONE WORLD ORDER is.
We have the smel and hazy conditions in southern maryand too
imagine forest fires with electric cars
Let’s see if the fires flushes that sasquatch that lives by big Indian lake
The wildfire in Barrington Lake Nova Scotia has consumed 44, 480 acres to date and still out of control.
Nova Scotia fired all their unjabbed emerg workers..
What a Karma that is happening in Canada for being a slave dog of the US.
We are in Virginia and I noticed that the air quality is bad
There will be no refuge or solace🫶🏽🖤1
People: RUN ITS DANGEROUS
Me: danger is beautiful….❤
Jesus be wattching Canada suprooteers Ukrainne war Amem.
Justin Trudeau shouldd used Nuclear bomb to fighting with Canada wildfire
We wouldn’t have this issue if people would stop lighting fires and trying to blame it on global warming, world governments at their finest leading the world down a rabbit hole we don’t want to go
Half a century ago fire raged through the forest without destroying any homes. Roads, farm fields and sports grounds separated towns from forest.
Now, when property is developed, coniferous trees in the decline stage of their life cycle, aka turpentine bombs, instead of being replaced with new plantings of deciduous trees are permitted to remain posing a fire hazard.
That is because man, governed by emotion—that has supplanted his intellect—springs to the rescue. Better a town is reduced to ashes than to fell a tree, be burdened with guilt and be declared a denier.
Better a quarter million live on the streets than to clear away forest and construct homes on a land that was not promised to them.
A nation forsaking Christian values has come under the influence of the _Cremation Cult,_ a Satanic creed, embracing a program of self-destruction.
Trudeau probably going to ban fire in Canada too
UHAUL?
Title is such clickbait. All across Canada, lol.
Ahhh- Not surprised to see Canada “burning” as, like here in the US- its National “sin” is High- their Leader promotes war in Ukraine- so what do you people expect!
1/4oz gold and 1oz silver rendition in running river water might’ve saved a place this size.
