We’re capable of extracting oxygen from mars atmosphere for future mars astronauts. It seems we should be able to do the same with extracting oxygen from ocean’s water.

I don’t see that happening they signed a waiver before the went down there. The Owner and CEO was the pilot and was using this trip to fund this sub which by the way was made out of high density plastic yes i said PLASTIC and never tested at that level. The CEO Mr Rush i believe his name was fired an employee who stated the craft was not safe for passengers… apparently he was correct. Then the idea the craft was stated to have 96 hours of air but they never say for how many people, my thoughts are for 1 because the craft is only 22 feet long its the size of and Oldsmobile late model. the idea the submersible has no propulsion and no escape hatch from the inside to get out. NO way to get help or emergency surface without help makes that thing a coffin.
They knew except what the risk was. !!!! The Contract they had to sign stated risk of death 3 times on the first sheet so essentially they paid for their own death which is sad .

There is a reason they dont make subs like this of carbon fiber. If their made of metal the forces on it will begin to disform the metal long bofere to totally fails, sensors can pick this up long before disaster. Carbon fiber has no flex, it fails in a second with no warning. they would have no idea it was about to crush and when it happens it would be so fast they would not feel anything. the window on this sub was only certified for 1300 meters, not 4000 meters. It was an accident waiting to happen.

OceanGate expedition is a non-profit that runs experimental expeditions using the submersible Titan. People who uses their services are called explorers who funds the cost of the expedition. They are given rudimentary training in expedition duties and are considered crew as a loophole from being sued by their relatives if a failure occurs. It’s basically a one-way ticket and you are not given assurances of a return ticket.

@Paul Suprono They had no emergency contingence rescue plans since they only had one submersible. Emergency like airline black box pinger that can operate up to 20,000 ft underwater for 30 days was not in their rescue plans. Their emergency plan was like most weekend sailors, call the US Coast Guard for help.

If it actually has an RTM hull monitoring system, and said system was working, wouldn’t it have sent some sort of communication that the hull had experienced issues if that was the case? If the RTM system was not working and they had no idea whether the hull was damaged or not, why didn’t they report that as soon as they knew that RTM system wasn’t working? Why did they wait 12 hours after communication was lost to report it to the authorities?

Submersibles should have an emergency noise generator and an emergency auto-surface. A bell would work- a common fire bell and weights that can be jettisoned.
A strobe light like an airplane and painted a bright color.
They have nothing like that on this vessel and if the power is not working none of that would help. I think all they can do is bang in Morse code and pray.
There’s no electricity. None of that works better than hitting the hull and you’re adding something to the already very limited space.

Anyone who lived in Arizona, Texas, California think they’re not going to see much heatwave is kidding themselves. It’s like us here in the north, if you thinking winter is just cold and snow, you know little about winter.
This was a reckless dive by an owner who believed diversity was more important than competence. He was warned about the fitness of this submersible for the dive. He wouldn’t hire any 50+ yr old white guys, who were possibly more competent than anyone he employed for this dive. No submersible has been sighted, since the beginning of the search. Oxygen has run out. The rescue search has turned into a recovery mission. Its very possible the submersible imploded early on, killing the owner & passengers instantly. Too bad, OceanGate Expeditions victimized humans for its experiments.

I hope tax payers money are not being used for this search. This was a private venture by the wealthy so they should pay for the rescue efforts regardless of the outcome.

I can’t imagine how the father feels going down with his 19 year old son and now being in this situation. Hopefully they underestimated the oxygen and the banging they have heard is them. Submariners are trained to bang for 3 minutes every 30 minutes, so I’m praying that is them. I’m wondering if they have heard any of that banging today (Thursday) because if that stops that’s gotta be bad news.
