Cedars-Sinai is facing a federal civil rights investigation over their treatment of Black women giving birth. The investigation comes after the death of Kira Johnson, a woman who died after a scheduled c-section delivery of her child in 2016. NBC News’ Valerie Castro reports.

Canada has silent racism too my first time giving birth at 40 i went to the labour ward at the royal alex hospital alberta ,this nurse told me that i want to have 10 kids because am black ….. Another nurse chased me off the bed to give it to a white woman yet its first come first serve ,i refused and asked to speak to my doctor instead,
This is a shame. I hope they able to find everyone involved in wrongful doing and terminate them and they should lose their license and be barred from working in a hospital or medical facility. This is why Black people need to do what they’ve done back in the days which is establish their own. Establish their own.

I had two children at cedars in 92 my youngest son I no went for my 6 week checkup and she asked me if I wanted birth control in case I go out and get lucky I was appalled and she had the nerve to say it in front of a young black male doctor I guess he was an intern she was pure evil her name was Dr. long she was probably barren or just mentally ill!!!!
Let’s go back to segregated schools stores and hospitals I’m tired of these pale skin jealous hateful people..

In 2018 my cousin went in for a c-section at 6am they did her c-section at 9, and she died on the bed from bleeding out.. She was white. It’s sad all around, may this young woman rest in peace & may God watch over her family. Both are things that should have been avoided 2 innocent babies without their innocent mothers. 🙏🏼🕊❤️🩹
I’m black but nowhere did they explain how this necessarily a racism issue.
People have to get rid of the notion that black people don’t feel pain or have a higher tolerance for pain. NOPE! FAKE NEWS! And if this case I particular was about the staff’s perception that they wouldn’t be able to pay, I can’t buy that.
Everyone shuts up eventually, and the issue is swept under the rug.
At best, expect a day/week/month (calendar holiday) for black patients.
What are the stats of women of color getting prenatal care vs other women not of color? Tell me that first. How did the color of her skin have anything to do with a hemorrhage? If your uterus is not contracting back to position no matter your color your in deep trouble. Ya all feeding the fire.
I’m WHITE and my cancer diagnosed for ten years my 4 doctors!!!! Not only that it grew to the size of a grapefruit my treatment was also a s h i t show that left me with PTSD and Fibromyalgia. My life has been ripped away from me when I had just adopted a baby! I had 4 miscarriages bcuz my cancer was missed. I am WHITE. It’s not about color it’s medical care period and hang on people it’s just getting worse. Stay healthy is all I can say no matter your color!
This is part of the reason I’ve decided not to have kids. I know women who told me they were listened to and how traumatized they are after giving birth. No thank you. It’s 2023 and we’re still looked and treated as less than.
CDC says they’re aware. I wonder for how long.

This didn’t happen overnight. There were 🚩🚩🚩way before this woman went to this hospital. People need to research their hospitals like they research their cars, homes and the colleges the kids will attend.
I am surprised hearing this. Retired ICU R.N.. always regarded this hospital as a great hospital.

My mother is 70, and I’ve heard her say since I was a child that when a woman is pregnant you have one foot in the grave and one on a Banana peel. I just had my 3rd child after 9 years and I was prayed up more than ever. My condolences to him and his family. 😔
The same thing happened to Serena Williams. She almost died because the doctors and medical staff refused to believe her that something was wrong. Turned out she had a blood clot near her lungs. If this can happen to a Black woman with means and access, it can (does) happens to ALL Black women. Kira should still be here!

Medical Racism
We should stop trusting certain people so much they don’t have our best interest at heart. Yes Black women are treated differently. We have to remember they and even some in our own community don’t care about us.
Cedar Sinai is horrible! I went one time feeling extremely tired! I knew something was wrong! The doctor at Cedar’s sent me home in exactly an hour. He said, I’m just stressed get some rest! I couldn’t even walk. I was so exhausted. Next day, I struggled and went to another hospital found out my hemoglobin was a 4(normal is 12-17)! Had to get 3 pints of blood! He lied and said my blood work was fine! He never submitted the order! Unfortunately, I was young and didn’t know my rights! I wish I knew his name! I would’ve definitely reported him! He was such a liar and dismissive!
All hospitals and doctors offices in California needs to be checked out because those doctors in California are heartless, my grand daughter almost died and so did because didn’t care.
I Honor Mr. Charles for doing what he did , Today black women have that same problem just going to doctor for any issues that may arise, it’s Sad we have children an family’s that we support,

As a blank woman in her 30’s I learned really young to advocate for myself. I always tell family and friends to also do so because unfortunately the system is not built for us. So we face a lot more risks and have to be very firm in how we want to be treated.

This is so sad, unacceptable and unprofessional. Their licensed should be revoked, if they have a number of complaints, medical malpractice and deaths that could of been preventable. I’m so thankful I had a some good doctors throughout my birth experience with my daughter, who is now four. I ask questions upon upon questions, any are there any other preventative treatments other than what you’re trying to offer me. Then I’ll ask another doctor and more questions. My God this is horrible and these individuals will answer to their decisions one day.
I remember his story! It haunted me ! Im not black but Latina! This beautiful women died in an American hospital due to neglect and that’s ridiculous!!!! I’ve been saying we need more cameras inside healthcare facilities!!! Nurses and doctors need to do better since healthcare in the US is so expensive

The price they paid for murdering his wife was a million dollars. Yet Kobe Bryant’s wife recieved several million dollars because someone took photos. They’re both reprehensible but I think murder should have the larger penalty. This country only rewards the so called elite.
The hospitals are also murdering white people and Asians. Between my partner and I we have had three beloved relatives murdered by the gross negligence and incompetence going on in these hospitals. They should be avoided at all costs.
Healthcare workers are not always altruistic helpers of God. They’re still people too, that can be prejudiced, racist, bullies. I’ve seen a lot of doctors that are pure sociopaths. Don’t always go in trusting that they have your best interest in mind

You know a racist hospital when all of the doctors, nurses and staff are “ALL” white and probably the janitor is either black or hispanic. Segregation and racism never died, it still lives and so does in our schools.

MEDICAL RACISM IS ALIVE AND WELL…
My dad, a WWII Veteran was taken by ambulance from one of the most PRESTIGIOUS assisted living communities to an Atlanta ER. Despite having contact information on file, they performed surgery on an 87 y/o man. When asked why, the surgeon literally said they did what eas medically necessary for someone who is INDIGENOUS. What?!? He wasn’t homeless!! That same hospital did the same thing to our brother who lived in Buckhead. If you knoe anything about BUCKHEAD it’s an upscale neighborhood. Unfortunately, he passed away. But they never called his emergency contact. Instead, they called the funeral home. When he died the funeral Director claims they buried him but couldn’t tell us where. They either cremated him, or more likely sold his body to medicine.
Usually y’all say we’re “playing the race card”. Just think how Many Black people have lost their lives 🤬
