As surfers are trying to catch waves off the coast of Santa Cruz, California, they are facing an unlikely adversary, a sea otter. The 5-year-old otter, also known as Otter 841, has been stalking surfers and biting their surfboards. NBC News’ Ellison Barber has more.

Leave her alone!! If you go out in the wild, there are wils animals. It’s not for humans to decide whether her behaviour is acceptable or not. Poor animals have to adapt to humans invading every habitat, and then get punished for it too. Remove the people!!

This boy just needs to rest a bit more. Perhaps there is a dearth of seaweed mats this year. I say we start up a campaign to collect contributions so we can buy him his own surfboard. We can even get a custom one made up with chewy, replaceable edges, and a pad with soft side bolsters so poochie doesn’t roll off. Since all he wants to do is chill on it. P.S.: Like some other animals we live with, otters like to bite. They love it, just like a cat or dog. But watch! They are cutest when they are biting!

What’s interesting is that the otter is 5 years old and only now doing this, from what this story tells us. I have a feeling something we haven’t seen yet is behind the behavior. Like a new predator has moved into the area. Or something is going on with the environment that we’re unaware of. It’s very unusual for a wild otter to act that way out of nowhere.
I was imagining some surfer causing her to lose her baby., However, since she was at the rescue place, she might view humans as providers. Don’t know. I would be very interesting as to why.

She is a gangster and she knows it ,these humans they are in my domains and mom bless her soul she taught me well ,but o must those surf boards is not as tasty as the sea cucumbers.We as human beings needs to give all animals their due rights and respect.
I’m on her side. Homospains are my least favorite species. She hates pollution dumb not a mystery and knows who I’d cause her home to be destroyed. That’s very fair.

That’s because sea otters are prey for sharks. Honestly, for them, it’s survival.
Why can’t humans just leave animals alone. Why does the otter have to be “relocated”? The otter is in it’s own enviroment. There is obviously a reason why it doesn’t want you there. Move along humans, the sea is a big space surely you can find somewhere else to surf.

Otters are very territorial. Worked in wildlife rehab a few moons ago and they are nothing to play with. If they are alone, the meaner they get. We found that otters that are bonded to others are more amenable to change, etc. They really are beautiful animals ❤
