Strong condemnation and protest of obstruction of meetings and programs of opposition parties and attacks – Professor Mujibur Rahman
A meeting of the central executive council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was held under the chairmanship of Acting Amir and former MP Professor Mujibur Rahman. In the meeting, the following resolution was adopted condemning and protesting the political situation prevailing in the country, obstruction of meetings and programs of opposition parties and attacks.
“And only 5 months after the National Assembly elections. Instead of creating an environment for fair and participatory elections in the country, the government is leading the country’s politics towards conflict and conflict by establishing a caretaker government system for the people’s demands. The government is not allowing the opposition to speak. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Sylhet metropolitan branch and Chittagong metropolitan branch appealed to the administration seeking cooperation for peaceful assembly. But the government showed contempt for the constitutional rights of the political parties and announced that they will not be allowed to hold the July 15 rally in Sylhet city and arrested 7 leaders and activists and sent them to jail with false cases. The police administration of Chittagong city publicized in the media that Jamaat would not be allowed to hold a rally on July 22. The police are harassing the houses of Jamaat leaders and workers in Chittagong city and conducting arrest operations.
The Central Executive Council observes that Awami terrorists attacked a rival candidate in the Gulshan constituency by-election on July 17 and seriously injured him. Attacks on opposition candidates in by-elections in the run-up to national elections, obstruction of rallies and not allowing opposition parties to speak prove that elections under this government cannot be peaceful at all. Only 11 percent votes were cast in the July 17 by-election. This shows that the people are not willing to participate in any election under the Awami government. Awami League and Chhatra League attacked various places of the country including Dhaka during the BNP’s pre-announced march program on Tuesday, July 18. The Central Executive Council strongly condemns these heinous incidents and protests. Roles in the government have revealed that the government wants to drag the country into conflict by attacking and persecuting opposition political parties and to come back to power in the name of a farce in the name of 2014-2018 style elections.
The central executive council of Jamaat-e-Islami is of the opinion that the people will not accept any sham elections under the party government unless the voting rights of the people are restored by establishing a caretaker government system.
The Central Executive Council immediately calls on the government to avoid conflicts and conspiracies and establish a caretaker government to ensure fair elections and the right of opposition parties including Jamaat-e-Islami to hold peaceful meetings.
