Al Jazeera’s senior political analyst Marwan Bishara says the possible captive release deal should have been the beginning of a more “permanent ceasefire”.
His comments come after Netanyahu said any pause in the fighting in Gaza or deal with Hamas will not mean the end of war.
“After 17 years of besieging the Gaza Strip, now to continue pounding it, bombing it, killing children,” Bishara said. “It’s utter madness.
“The Israeli military did not want this [deal] and … the Israeli political elite did not want it,” Bishara said, adding that mounting public pressure has pushed them towards agreeing to it.

The world/UN has been thinking along the same solutions for the last 75 years, but without much success. So should we not at least think a bit more radically by:
1. Acknowledging that Palestinians have been treated unfairly and have human rights. And they are under occupation by Zionist Israelis.
2. Israelis/Zionists/Jews have human rights too, and need their own country.
3. Is it possible to relocate the Israeli country/state to another part of the world? Does it have to be on the occupied land, or can Israel be relocated through the UN consensus mechanism, with equal rights of ongoing and future access to religious sites, for everyone?

Aljazera and this analyst is desperate to achieve anything that resembles a win for Hamas to a point that they are willing to sacrifice the civilian Palestinians and prolong their suffering by denying the demand of the Jews for Hamas to return all the kidnapped hostages. If all hostages are released now by Hamas, this will allow the likes of Turkey to send an army unilaterally but for as long there a hostages the Jews has a freehand. This is another example of arab hypocrisy, first and foremost the supported Hamas financially and militarily to make this war possible and secondly they’re prolonging this war by not pressuring Hamas to give up hostages just to save face and avoid another humiliating defeat.

I’m an American. I think there are only two ways to end this conflict once and for all. For a miracle to happen and Palestinians and Israelis come together and live side by side under one state democracy. The other is for the Israeli’s to give up on the idea of having their own state and give the land back to the Palestinians, with genuine apologies. I would welcome the Israelis to the US, become US citizens. Maybe Canada would become permanent home to some as well. The most important thing is that all people, Israeli and Palestinian, will see no more bloodshed. That their future generations will not live in fear of attack, death, and destruction daily. That is what is most important. Let’s get this done no matter how dramatic the resolution may seem to some. It can’t be worse than what the Palestinians and Israelis have been experiencing the past 75 years and will surely continue to experience if this does not get resolved.

I would pay good money to see this guy have to talk about the flip side of the coin and be questioned on his thoughts about Hamas’ declining popularity since coming to power, and their refusal to hold elections and give the people the opportunity to vote them out of power. Like the IDF and Israeli government aren’t in a great spot right now in my opinion but at least they hold elections and Netanyahu is likely going to be voted out next term.
I love AJ reporting but unfortunately due to them being funded by the Qatar (who houses the political leaders of Hamas and negotiates for them), I have to take most of their reporting on this conflict with a grain of salt.
