Michigan State Police officer Kammeron Bennetts wasn’t able to get close enough to rescue a 65-year-old man who had fallen into a frozen lake but was able to coax the man’s dog Ruby to carry a rescue disc to him. With the dog’s help, the man was pulled to safety. WPBN’s Marc Shollet reports.

Both men and the dog should be commended. The police officer, for his bravery and quick thinking, the dog for being so well trained, loyal, and smart, and the older man for teaching and raising such a dog to be so outstanding! Bravo to all 3!

My grandfather was an officer trained in icewater rescue AND recovery in Crawford County and went beyond when needed. So glad this man was able to be rescued instead of having to be recovered. It may be cold here, but our lakes haven’t had adequate time to freeze to be out on them safely.
