Both sides will suffer if the U.S.-China trade relationship is damaged: Ex-diplomat

The U.S. and China have been making efforts to manage their strained relationship, with President Joe Biden speaking with Chinese President Xi Jinping this week, and Xi’s business rendezvous with American CEOs the week before.

This is because both countries have a “behind the scenes” understanding that they have to work together, says Kishore Mahbubani, a distinguished fellow at the National University of Singapore’s Asia Research Institute.
