@loriprihoda8731 – Actually, that’s probably part of the cause. Warming waters, altered currents, bringing up parasites in the water that previously couldn’t survive this far north. Whirling fish disease is nothing new, it’s a phenomenon known to be caused by a parasite. Hasn’t been seen in these waters…up ’til now.

Yeah, I did a quick google on whirling fish disease and there’s info all over the internet on it, and even some youtube videos of aquarium fish swimming exactly like those pictured in the news clips here. (Somebody tell the science people about google please.) The cause appears to be some sort of parasite, so seeing this in ocean fish may be the result of warmer waters resulting from altered current patterns due to global warming.
