China could impose tariffs on EU gas-powered cars, in response to the EU’s tariff hike on Chinese EVs last week.
Such a move would hurt European luxury automakers, as Chinese consumers might prefer domestic luxury brands that are sold at a lower price, said Tu Le, founder and managing director of Sino Auto Insights.
Chinese consumers are attracted to domestic brands not only because of the cars’ features and design, but also because there are many options to choose from, he added.
