In the last conflict in 2006, more than 1,000 Lebanese civilians had died compared with 23 on the Israeli side.
But as Al Jazeera’s Tony Birtley reports from southern Lebanon, the discovery of oil and gas reserves in waters disputed by Lebanon and Israel has raised the stakes.

Overall, when you look at the figures they are pretty one sided, in favor of Israel. I mean, Israel suffered 165 casualties while Lebanon and Hezbollah around 2000. But yes, hezbollah managed to hit an Israeli ship with a silkworm missile causing 4 of the Israeli Casualties that way. Hezbollah managed to spook many Israeli citizens to evacuate by shooting insignificant sparse rocket fire over civilian areas (btw, this is a war crime). The war ended with fouad Siniora crying like a baby on TV and begging for a ceasefire.. But okay, if you need victory so much, you win. “Gr8 success”. :-).
