Actor Nick Cordero, 41. Healthy with no underlying conditions. Been in ICU at Cedar Sinai barely hanging on for 2 months. They had to amputate his leg and he will need a double lung transplant if he ever gets strong enough. They had to put in a pacemaker, his heart is damaged. He had 2 mini strokes. He’s pretty well f-ed up for life now. He had just had a newborn son and missed getting to see him walk. His wife Amanda Kloots has been documenting his ordeal on social media.
The lack of news footage documenting those hospitalized is probably because the patients are put in strict isolation with no visitors allowed not even family.
Because in US, health data of a person is private and cannot be public without consent. Even though technically, it’s already leaked everywhere. Like in my home country, there is a list of each patient’s identity, location, skim travel history, which hospital, and health status. You won’t see the same thing in the US.
Sadly actor Nick Cordero died this morning, he fought for 95 days. His son will grow up without him.

The concept that it is a matter of strength of will that gets you better seems to be persuasive in the USA. As a nurse I have seen many ‘strong” people die.

My brother had COVID-19. By the time he was admitted to hospital his temp was 42 Deg C and oxygen saturation was 82. He was in such a bad state that when the ambulance took him, I was devastated because I thought that that was the last time I would see him. I couldn’t go to the hospital to see him. I had to rely on calling the hospital to get info on his progress. For a week they kept telling me he was in a bad state. It was frightening. He is a psychiatric patient who has relied on me for over 20 years, but this one time I was helpless. There was nothing I could do for him. I didn’t know if he had it in him to get through. He is the last person I’d expect to get through this. He is unhealthy, smokes, takes psychiatric medication, doesn’t exercise, etc. But for some inexplicable reason, he recovered very quickly. This virus is unpredictable, weird and behaves in a many that we have never seen before. Thank God he is back home now. But, it took him 2 months to totally recover. Emotionally and physically. He kept telling me his mind was all over the place. His emotions were up and down. He has completely lost sensation in his one hand and no exercise seems to help. Please people, take this seriously. You don’t know the effects until you are faced with the disease. Until you see your loved one delirious, unconscious, fighting for his life, and paramedics walking about in your home with hazmat suits on. It is scary and very real. Please take care.

Honestly, I think a huge factor of the severity of Coronavirus in the United States has to do with the physical conditions of the residents of the nation. I am not saying that Covid-19 is in any way a joke, but the high obesity and the high rates of medical conditions and diseases are increasing the numbers. In addition to that, the sheer number of uneducated morons not wearing masks and leading the country is snowballing the pandemic.

It’s true that we will have to wait a few more weeks, but the statistics proves otherwise. CNN does tend to report against the current republican presidential party, which would lead them to portray the pandemic more critically than it has to. However, the link shows that the American population is more prone to the virus than other global populations.

However, looking at Covid-19 on US statistically and demographically, a huge factor of the severity of the virus in the US can be attributed to the number of obesity and medical conditions. I do not know you personally so I can’t conclude anything about you, but the general US population is not as healthy as other countries. Most of the people critically impacted by the virus in the US have co-morbid diseases.
I try not to fall into the blame game because I guess this could have come from anywhere but it feels like the CCP really did a number on the world by hiding this virus for so long. Then WHO making it seem like it wasn’t a pandemic and then making a case for not using masks unless you have symptoms. I still remember when they lifted the lockdown in Wuhan they were going to the town across the river but were blocked by residents who were afraid of it spreading to the neighboring town across the river. Across the river people weren’t exposed but China was letting people get on airplanes and travelling all over the world from Wuhan. I don’t know, it seems intentional especially considering China had the best outcome of any nation with an outbreak.

Sounds like Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome (PVFS) which if patients don’t rest rest rest and instead try ‘pushing through’ they could end up with life long ME/CFS with debilitating flu like symptoms and extreme weakness and chronic fatigue that’s so bad it feels like you are constantly very unwell. My brother has this condition for 31 years so I’m praying these poor people don’t try ‘pushing through’ like he did and ruining his life

It would be ideal if everyone would just cooperate together and stay home, avoid large gatherings, only go out when necessary and wear masks when they do so, etc. But sadly, I don’t think we’re ever going to get everyone to do so. So that’s why at this point I think it would be best to quarantine the sick and vulnerable, and let everyone else return to normal life (some people would say that the people going out would spread it to the more vulnerable, but the point of protecting/isolating the vulnerable would be to keep them away from the people who could potentially spread it to them, thereby eliminating that risk). And I’m well aware of the asymptomatic cases, don’t get me wrong, but I still don’t think that justifies quarantining/restricting everybody. Again, the quarantine-the-sick-and-vulnerable-and-let-everyone-else-live-their-lives-as-normal approach is not perfectly ideal, but I really think it would be the best solution at this point given how things have been going.
All that being said, people should still wear a mask out in public. I wear one whenever I go out.
Recovery period is a slow pace will take 2 + months and still more step by step … Survived two heart attacks in one month… second time I was on a ventilator for almost 4 days in also on a heart assist pump balloon 5 days .. 6 days before I stood up at the side of the bed for a few minutes … later on that night I took my first very short walk which was very draining at the time.. but I wanted to… even said to the Nurses following me I thought I was doing poorly but they re-assured me I was doing very well considering the situation that happened, 7th day afternoon heart ICD installed … 8th day transferred out of the ICU floor to the closely monitored cardio floor for recovery originally planed for a short 1 to 2 week assisted living rehab place but on the 12th day I got into a car “not driving” to my fathers place too functional for assisted living.. very lucky person ….because most either don’t make it or go the the assisted or nursing home 90+% of the time.
PS also used a walker for over a month for anything outside to stores.. also to daily walk at the park more or less something to sit on and for safety “fall balance reasons”

It’s generally considered that once you’ve had the illness you won’t contract it again nor transmit the virus to others.
The most contagious stage of the disease is when you are still asymptomatic and the viral load apparently lessens even as symptoms become more apparent.
She can really only go with the medical advice given!
Also a mask becomes particularly relevant when within enclosed spaces, poorly ventilated locations or within two metres of an infected person.

Would they know the answer to that since we are still in the middle of the first wave? That number could change daily, to know the percentage of patients disabled by corona virus. There is no way to tell what lasting effect each person could have, and who is at risk for that outcome. You don’t have to have an underlying issue for Corona virus to cause organ damage.

I know many people who have health insurance, but it doesn’t cover physical rehab. About 3 years ago, I broke my shoulder, and my insurance did, so I spent 3 weeks going to physical therapy to regain full use of that arm. It was only about an hour, three times a week, but at the start, I had problems lifting my arm and my range of motion was poor. Rehab brought it all back. Met a woman at that time who said her husband had also broken his shoulder some years back, but their insurance didn’t cover physical therapy, so he has never recovered full use of that arm
So, now, with so many covid-19 patients having lasting effects—-can’t walk easily, can’t speak clearly, etc.—-I’m wondering how many will be able to afford physical therapy which can make ALL the difference in how well they recover. How many will end up permanently disabled?
