The media hype over the “record numbers of cases” has become comical. What’s sad is the low information liberals eat this stuff up, aren’t intelligent enough to formulate the correct questions and do not understand 3rd grade math.
Record numbers of tests will of course result in record numbers of cases. Epidemiology 101. Dallas for example has had a 53% increase in the number of cases over the past 30 days. Dallas has also had a 51% increase in the number of tests completed.
What is concerning is the test positivity rate. In Dallas, the rate remained flat for months, ranging between 11% and 13%. It is currently 27.7%, effecting primarily those 18-39 years old. This shows a much wider rate of community spread in this group which is the group who is ignoring the guidelines from the CDC.
Also keep in mind, as we test more, the case fatality rate will drop. The CDC has revised their projection of a 3% case fatality rate to one of .3%. They were initially off by an order of magnitude. A case fatality rate of .3% by the way, makes it a really bad flu.
Get a grip
People are misconstruing the meaning of uptick on coronavirus cases. Of course there would be an uptick because of the aggressive testing that the government has been doing (now almost at 36.3 million, the highest around the world). And just because someone has the virus, he or she would get sick and hospitalized. He or she may have strong immune system that can readily fight the virus and stop it from spreading. It’s worth noting here that even the WHO has not categorically concluded that asymptomatic people can readily spread the virus. He also vetoed online education funding during this critical time. I am not politisizing this situation, I am stating the facts. People are dying because the leader creates a bad atmosphere and removes the resources needed. When lives are on the chopping block, the smart ones would compare what have worked and what have not and identify the source of the issue. No, this governor just wanted to follow Trump’s playbook. He is not a problem solver, he is a trouble maker. I am sad that people in FL are dying but also believe more people in FL will have to die for the current governor to lose enough support to be removed from his position in the next election. I am from RI. Check it out. It is one of the very few states that had its new daily case numbers in downward trend and just stayed there since May. However, I don’t think it will last long because people ignore social distancing rules and lots of beach goers do not wear face coverings. It is obvious what is driving this massive increase in coronavirus among the young and their older relatives. The estimate is that there were between 15 million and 26 million protestors all over the country. There is your explanation that the biased and propaganda spewing media is not telling people. The mainstream media did not say anything about this obvious danger after these protests began. George Floyd was murdered by a sick person who wore a police officer’s uniform. I understand the anger and reason people protested but it was not wise of the protestors to do so without masks and social distancing. The result is what the US is facing now. Being dishonest about the reality of the situation will only make matters worse and people will get sick and die that should not.
Meanwhile the media blames reopening and remains silent about the millions who protested without any social distancing at all and with many opting to protest with no mask on to protect themselves and their loved ones. Businesses are being shuttered again when the real cause of the problem is hardly mentioned by anyone in the media. Um…hello from Florida! There are more cases because there is more testing being done. The fatality rates have stayed low (thank heavens) in many areas around the state though the positive test rate has increased. I am on the Space Coast. Overall things have stayed pretty calm and I am very grateful to my fellow Floridians for that. Last night many wonderful folks around my community set off fireworks and it was a really nice informal event that lasted a few hours. Every direction you looked outside you could see fireworks. It was awesome! People set off fireworks even though there was no official fireworks show. Fireworks are really a great social distancing activity when you think about it. You can see them from far away and appreciate each other for honoring Independence Day.
