Russia, US call on Afghans to discuss ceasefire after talks

The Afghan government and the Taliban have reportedly agreed to speed up peace talks. Russia has been hosting talks in Moscow which have been taking place less than two months before the deadline for American troops to pull out of Afghanistan. The US, Russia, China and Pakistan have urged the warring sides to reach an immediate ceasefire. Turkey summons US ambassador over statement on killings

0 Turkey has expressed its disapproval of the US’s reaction to the killing of 13 Turkish hostages in northern Iraq. Ankara says the PKK, an armed Kurdish group the United States, the EU and Turkey labels as “terrorist” carried out the killings. Washington said it condemned the act if it could be confirmed that the PKK was responsible. The two are NATO allies but Turkish President Recep Tayiyp Erdogan is angry over the US’s support of Kurdish fighters in neighbouring Syria. ‘No more fear!’: Belarus president heckled by striking workers

In an unprecedented act, workers at a factory shouted down Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko, who has long been referred to as the father of the nation. Protesters across the country have made it clear they want Alexander Lukashenko out. The main opposition leader, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, said she is ready to lead a transition and is calling on the security forces to switch sides. EU leaders will hold an emergency meeting on the issue on Wednesday. US: Pentagon announces 11,900 troops to be moved from Germany

The United States has announced plans to pull nearly a third of its military personnel out of Germany in a continuing dispute over defence spending. President Donald Trump flagged the move back in June, amid a dispute with Berlin over its defence spending. Nearly half of the 12,000 troops will be moved to other locations in Europe, including Italy and Belgium. First shipment of Russian S-400 systems delivered to Turkey

Russian cargo planes have begun delivering a controversial missile system in Turkey. The first shipment of the S-400 air defence system has been flown into a military airfield in the Turkish capital, Ankara. The launch vehicles can each carry four long-range missiles. The United States had warned it would cancel an F-35 fighter jet deal if Turkey took delivery of the missiles.
