China’s economy slows sharply, fanning global recession fears

China has recorded its slowest economic growth since 2020. The slump is being blamed on its zero-tolerance COVID-19 policy, which has interrupted industry and flattened consumer spending. China warns countries against interference on Taiwan

China’s defence minister has issued a stark warning: foreign interference in Taiwan is ‘doomed to fail’. Wei Fenghe’s address at the Shangri-La dialogue in Singapore focused on Beijing’s stance on Taiwan. Tensions between China and the US are front and centre on the last day of the summit.
