The Taliban have taken control of Jalalabad, capital of Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province, early on Sunday morning without a fight, according to officials and a resident. This effectively leaves the capital Kabul as the last major urban area under government control – it follows the Taliban’s seizure of the major northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif.
