Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has left Afghanistan for Tajikistan as the Taliban closes in on Kabul, according to several media reports.
Ghani’s departure comes amid negotiations for a peaceful transfer of power after Taliban fighters encircled Kabul.

My father fought in WWII and they had a saying about the guy standing next to you and it was “would you go to war with this guy”. People around the world especially Allies are asking that question about Americans. Can you trust America to stand with you and keep their promises and obligations? What do you tell the parents of the Allies and Americans who have seen their loved ones killed in Afghanistan? After 20 years you have made no difference in the country. Have you learned anything? The military war machine sure made trillions and the stock prices hit record level! The wars that the so called super power has won – WWI with the Allies, WWII with the Allies and did a great job in rebuilding Japan, Korean War stalemate, Bay of Pigs a loss, Vietnam as stalemate, Grenada a win, first Iraq war achieved goals, the second Iraq we are not sure but a lot of wasted lives, Afghanistan turning out to be a loss. With all that military might and technology maybe America should stick to countries like Grenada.

Ghani doesn’t care about a legacy, he has enough money squirreled away. What he does leave though is the answer to any debate about on going intervention and support. After twenty years of allied nations pouring money into the country and thousands of coalition deaths in an effort to improve the lives of those citizens of Afghanistan, their three hundred or so thousand soldiers with all the modern equipment they could need just scurried away like rats when they didn’t have the allied forces between them and the Taliban. “Them and the Taliban” is a nonsense statement since they were mostly the same people anyway. For twenty years the Afghan people fooled the allied nations into believing they could achieve something worth all the deaths and effort committed to by the allied nations and paid for out of hard earned tax payers money, well the events of the last week have answered that question without any doubt. Much as I empathise with those citizens of Afghanistan who truly deserve a better life and those who lost love ones to that effort, I cannot debate anything Biden says when he says he stands by his decision to go through with the withdrawal of US troops. How much longer would the coalition forces need to stay and how many more deaths ? when anyone can answer those questions, then we might understand the impossibility of the task because if you cannot affect any real change in twenty years then those questions are irrelevant.
