Thailand sends aid to Myanmar as violence eases near border

Aid is being sent from Thailand to people displaced by fighting in Myanmar after violence eased near the border in the past two days. But ethnic Karen fighters in Myanmar say they will only negotiate a ceasefire if Myanmar’s military leaves areas where fierce fighting has been taking place. The Karen National Union (KNU) said the area under its control in Karen state was hit last week by air raids and artillery rounds. More than 30 killed, bodies burned in Myanmar’s Kayah state

Human rights groups are accusing Myanmar’s military of committing a mass killing against civilians as they intensify an offensive against rebel forces in Kayah state. The Save the Children charity says two staff members were caught up in the violence and are missing. The violence follows a week of government bombing and artillery fire that has forced thousands of people from their homes. But there is fierce resistance from local ethnic groups. Video from Myanmar claims to show aftermath of a village massacre

UN officials have condemned the killings of at least 10 people in Myanmar’s northwestern Sagaing district allegedly perpetrated by government security forces. Eyewitness accounts from the area say more than 100 government troops entered Don Thaw village on December 7, searching for armed fighters from the so-called Peoples Defence Force. 10 Myanmar police killed in attack by ethnic armies: Reports

A coalition of three powerful armed groups in Myanmar has reportedly attacked security forces for the first time since a ceasefire in 2019 .
