A court in Mozambique has sentenced the son of a former president, two ex-spy bosses, and eight others to years in prison for their part in a corruption scandal in which the government sought to conceal huge debts, triggering financial havoc. UK Border Force staff plan to go on strike at airports across the country during the busy Christmas period in a dispute over pay, one of the United Kingdom’s biggest trade unions said, as it warned that travellers will face severe disruptions. Border Force workers at several major British airports – including the country’s busiest, London’s Heathrow – will walk off the job for eight days, from December 23 to 31, the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union said on Wednesday. Peru has now sworn in a new president after former leader Pedro Castillo was impeached by Congress and detained. Castillo was arrested just hours after saying he would dissolve Congress by presidential decree – a move the country’s constitutional court said was a ‘coup d’etat.’ Congress moved ahead with a vote on whether he should be impeached.
