South Africa: Overnight floods kill dozens in Durban and environs

At least 59 people are thought to have died in South Africa’s eastern coastal province of KwaZulu-Natal due to unusually heavy rainfall, according to media reports, while officials were still trying to assess the extent of the damage. Dozens more are missing across the port city of Durban, which is expecting more extreme weather. There are fears that numerous people have been injured while damage to property was extensive in the overnight rains. The military has been put on alert. Death toll from Malaysia’s worst floods in years rises to 27

The death toll from Malaysia’s worst floods in years has risen to 27, according to state media, as the weather bureau warned of continued thunderstorms and heavy rains in southern and eastern parts of the country. The Bernama news agency said on Wednesday that 20 of the deaths were recorded in Selangor state, which encircles Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur. Seven deaths were recorded in the eastern state of Pahang. Shanghai cancels flights as Typhoon In-Fa lashes eastern China

Two international airports in the Chinese city of Shanghai have cancelled all flights and authorities banned outdoor activities as Typhoon In-Fa lashed eastern China with high winds and heavy rains. Deaths in flooded subway as torrential rain hits central China

At least 12 people have been killed in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou, as severe flooding sweeps China’s central province of Henan. Tens of thousands are also forced to evacuate their homes after three days of heavy rainfall, which was close to the annual average rainfall. ‘Catastrophic floods’: 105 killed, 5 million affected in Vietnam

Severe floods and landslides triggered by weeks of heavy rains have killed at least 105 people in central Vietnam and “swamped” five million, according to media reports and an aid agency. About a third of the dead included soldiers whose barracks were buried under deadly mudslides last week, Reuters news agency reported on Tuesday.
