The first US-made M1 Abrams tanks have arrived in Ukraine. Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said they would reinforce Kyiv’s armored brigades. He did not specify how many tanks had arrived. Ukraine’s Black Sea Threat: Ships on Route Risk Becoming Military Targets Russia has warned that from Thursday any ships travelling to Ukraine’s Black Sea ports will be considered potential military targets, as Kyiv said it would set up a temporary shipping route to continue grain exports following Moscow’s withdrawal from a United Nations-brokered deal that permitted grain exports from Ukraine’s ports. Ukraine says it is making gains in the offensive against Russian forces to recapture Bakhmut. The city in eastern Ukraine has been at the heart of fierce fighting for months. Ukraine’s armed forces released a video showing what it said were soldiers storming Russian positions. The general staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has said in its evening report that Russian forces made unsuccessful attempts to advance in the Lyman sector, as artillery shelling killed at least eight civilians and wounded 13 in the eastern town. Kyiv’s military says more than two dozen battles around Bakhmut, near Avdiivka and Maryinka. Ukraine has said its troops recaptured three villages from Russian forces in its southeast, the first liberated settlements it reported since launching a counteroffensive. Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of a “barbaric act” in his first public comments on the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam, which has caused widespread flooding. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called the missile attack on an apartment building in Kramatorsk the “daily reality of our country”. “A country bordering absolute evil. And a country that has to overcome it in order to reduce to zero the likelihood of such tragedies happening again,” Zelenskyy said in his daily late-night address. Three Russian military personnel have been killed from the debris of a Ukrainian drone that was shot down and fell on a military base deep inside Russia, the country’s defence ministry has said. “On December 26, at about 01:35 Moscow time, a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle was shot down at low altitude while approaching the Engels military airfield in the Saratov region,” the Russian Defence Ministry said on Monday.
