New Zealand floods forces hundreds to evacuate

Heavy floods in New Zealand have forced hundreds of people to leave their homes. The city of Nelson has been hit the hardest. Mexico: Drought fuels anger as Monterrey about to run dry

Extreme drought conditions in Mexico are causing an historic water shortage in the state of Nuevo Leon. Reservoirs and rivers that supply water to some 5.3 million people in the Mexican city of Monterrey are about to run dry. The state governor says people are experiencing an “extreme climate crisis”. More than half of Mexico is currently facing moderate to severe drought conditions, according to CONAGUA, Mexico’s National Water Commission. South Africa: Overnight floods kill dozens in Durban and environs

At least 59 people are thought to have died in South Africa’s eastern coastal province of KwaZulu-Natal due to unusually heavy rainfall, according to media reports, while officials were still trying to assess the extent of the damage. Dozens more are missing across the port city of Durban, which is expecting more extreme weather. There are fears that numerous people have been injured while damage to property was extensive in the overnight rains. The military has been put on alert. Winter storm slams into eastern United States, brings heavy snow

A powerful winter storm packing heavy snow and high winds has pummeled the United States East Coast, forcing the cancellation of thousands of flights as severe weather alerts were sounded across the region of nearly 70 million people. With blizzard warnings in effect, cities including New York and Boston bore the brunt of the storm on Saturday morning, but the far-reaching system also hit the mid-Atlantic.
