Chad’s military has said the son of the late President Idriss Deby will head the transitional government after the death of his father. The army says the elder Deby was killed in clashes with rebels in the north. In his place, Mahamat Idriss Deby will head an 18-month interim government until elections are held. The mayor of the South African city of Cape Town says firefighters have contained a blaze that has ravaged the slopes of Table Mountain. Strong winds fanned the flames for more than 24 hours, destroying more than 400 hectares of land and buildings including parts of a university.
