Moroccan rescue workers edge closer to child trapped in well

Rescue teams in Morocco say they are getting closer to reaching a young boy who fell down a 32-metre (105 feet) well. He has been trapped since Tuesday. Crews say that they are less than 2 metres away from him now. A team is digging out part of a hillside in a delicate and dangerous operation to reach the five-year-old. US to deploy more troops to Eastern Europe amid Ukraine crisis

The United States is sending 2,000 additional soldiers to Europe and repositioning another 1,000 from Germany to Romania to ensure the “robust defence” of European NATO members, the Pentagon has said, amid the ongoing impasse between Russia and Ukraine. US Department of Defense spokesman John Kirby told reporters on Wednesday that the troop deployment would take place in the coming days. Heavy gunfire heard near presidential palace in Guinea-Bissau

Heavy gunfire has been heard in the capital of Guinea-Bissau near the seat of the government, according to media reports. Heavily-armed men surrounded the Palace of Government on Tuesday, where President Umaro Sissoco Embalo and Prime Minister Nuno Gomes Nabiam were believed to have gone to attend a cabinet meeting. The presidential palace is located on the edge of the capital close to the airport. World accused of ‘sitting and watching’ as Myanmar slides to war

US will designate Qatar as major non-NATO ally, Biden tells emir

The United States is planning to designate Qatar as a major non-NATO ally, President Joe Biden has told Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, a move that would formally upgrade the partnership between Doha and Washington.
