One year since the military coup in Myanmar, calls for international action are growing louder, notably from the National Unity Government (NUG), made up of elected politicians who were thrown out of office by the generals.
“The world is doing nothing but just sitting and watching,” NUG Foreign Minister Zin Mar Aung told Al Jazeera.
Attacks against civilians, protesters and political activists have escalated in recent months.
What began as tear-gassing and beatings have now turned into air assaults, the burning of villages, and targeted shootings across the country.
Al Jazeera’s Tony Cheng reports.

Failed states should be left alone.
You support the military government, don’t you? That’s why stay still GM 1990, stay still
@IDK I’m not from Bangla or other desh.
Ann Suu Kyi was an evil US puppet who committed genocide now she is in jail where she belongs.
So sad 😭😭😭
USA JANUARY 6TH IS REAL AMERICANS DEMOCRACY???????????????????????????
Saboteurs will be arrested.
I am from Myanmar.
What we need is not Watching Us.
Flee or fight. I see Myanmar like Campuchia is on arms with China already.
U want ur country become a battleground for war and later becoming a puppet nation for another superpower?
@Agathon Christianto EVERY country is under control of the Global “elite”. This has been the case for generations.
This is evident under resource trading, the World Bank currency system, Court systems match etc. Its all trickery hiding in plain site
saya pikir anda harus melawan dengan mengangkat senjata bersama seluruh rakyat supaya anda terbebas dari penjajahan di negara sendiri
Us means “we” or “United States”?
Well done mayanmar Army love from India
Military must go starve them
Well… everyone gets help as fast as they find oil
pray Allah gives peace to the ummah of Rasoolallah (salallahu alahi wasalam)
We got bigger fish to fry unfortunately. Handle your own business
Okay we will fry our own fish when you guys get allergic by fish.
😭😭😭😭😭🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Brave people of Myanmar are on their own fighting the Junta, Islamist & Communist Terrorists (as well as crony capitalists) simultaneously. Only People Defense Forces can liberate the people. Freedom is costly but not as costly as being victims to these Terrorists.
@dog goneyou not capitalists, but crony capitalists same as oligarchs, monopolist
@M K I agree
@SR A Haha truth hurts isn’t it
Take your Meds on time
@Kaif Shaikh haha don’t think all people are on meds like you
This here is a war worth fighting
Sadly we won’t help. China and Russia are our biggest threats we need to deal with.
@Don’t Care and those two are backing the Myanmar military
Wars don’t just happen. Look at all those who have their hands in the pie, including NGO’s. Then, follow the money. The puzzle pieces will fall into place.
@Serpent Crusher Weirdo, you don’t blame the West. And then what do you proceed to do? Blame the west and how its messing up the east. Nice Contradiction. I think enough people have dunked on you and shown you to be a complete wack job.
Every country and its people should have the freedom to self determine their own future and rule. What is not right is when foreign interference jumps in under the ruse of NGOs, undisclosed funding and external military support to rig a country’s democracy.
If you guys value democracy and freedom of speech, then listen to both sides of the argument and not just western mainstream media.
Check out the YT channel ‘The New Atlas’ which on some of his videos explains why some countries have kicked out NGOs.
Yes… CIA and NED are pure Evil in this world.
@Rygar 218 Not a contradiction at all. I’m quoting remarks from the YT channel and a few others. Why don’t you go and check it out for yourself before you expose too much of your ignorance and then we can have an intelligent discussion.
@Marco Polo Mint Fully agree. Most people are so brainwashed by Western media they tend to believe democracy and free speech only exist in the West and that the West are the saviours of the world. Yet the very countries who claim to be guardians of democracy and free speech are the very countries who are now stifling it. Some people believe only what they want to believe because they don’t question or think critically.
@Serpent Crusher Intelligent discussion? In case you didn’t know, someone already dunked on you before. Laid it all out nice and clear for you. But, you want to continue your brain rot. Btw, I followed Brian for a long time. He’s been debunked a million times over. You ask him 1 simple basic question, that he should easily be able to answer, and he fumbles over his words. Most importantly, he won’t answer the question. He is nothing but, a pure grifter. And to Promote that, shows your ignorance.
good for nothing in burmar myanmar.
Silent protest, bwahaha 😂😂😂
Cor*na a biggest scam of era by UN. Vac*ine is a dark secret. Politicians are real vir*s. Gov and politicians will have to pay for taking innocent lives
There is no damocracy in 3rd world countries they are just dicktators or control damocracy .
It’s not war it’s American imperialism hegemony
What? No, America has zero interest here. Many Burmese _wish_ they did.
Lmao wut? This is all China.
Almighty Father Please hear our prayers 🧎♀️🧎♀️🧎♀️🧎♀️🧎♀️🧎♀️🧎♀️❤️
God responded. He said pray with your hands, feet, and minds.
What is wrong with the soldiers
The Myanmar army occupies a privileged state within a state, in which soldiers live, work and socialise apart from the rest of society, imbibing an ideology that puts them far above the civilian population. This institution has thoroughly dominated Myanmar for six decades. From the moment soldiers enter boot camp, Tatmadaw troops are taught that they are guardians of a country – and a religion – that will crumble without them. A steady diet of propaganda feeds them notions of enemies at every corner, even on city streets. The cumulative effect is a bunkered worldview in which orders to kill unarmed civilians are to be followed without question.
County of setan
I heard they believe in Karma. Perhaps..the Rohingya thing, perhaps. Seems like poetic justice.
thats not how karma works
Thousands of civilians have been massacred. Entire villages burned near Thailand Border.
and the World do nothing, and pretend they don’t see anything.
Not the U.N, and not even the Islamic Countries do anything to save their Muslim brothers and sisters. They just words.
No action. the world full of Hypocrites
on your comment, please, try to learn the real story. Not just surface headlines.
Many burmese and rakhine people helped muslim brothers and sisters too. It is not about Religion.
It is the Power hungry dictatorship killing EVERYONE no matter their race or religion.
Shame on you for your victim blaming, how great is that
@IDK again not how karma works
show mercy to others,God will show mercy up on you….an apt verse
Karma for what they did to the Rhohingya.
What did the civilians do?
Myanmar Buddhist saved their country from becoming another Afghanistan by throwing them out…
@Josiah Duncan Lyngdoh Mawphlang let it happen
@SeKToR they were manipulated and information controlled by the junta .Most of the ethnic rebels were labelled as terrrorists .Even some of the civilians who knew the truth would be quickly silenced
Hun Sen…Get out of Myanmar’s Affairs and stay committed to ASEAN’s consensus
They could expel Cambodia from ASEAN for this!
The subtitle : “Protesters brave violent crackdowns”, interesting choice of words….
*Myanmar like Sudan, Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea.*
under a military junta
What is the world expected to do? Launch an invasion?
sanctions, condemn the government or give armaments and technical support to the many separatist armies in the country
@ragirak So you are suggesting that in order to help Myanmar, we should help the separatist movements to achieve their goals of separating away from Myanmar? Will the majority of Myanmar citizens be agreeable to the idea of their country being dismembered into several separatist states?
@ragirak The situation in Myanmar is quite similar to Afghanistan, lots of different tribes/ethnic groups wanting to create their own states.
@sallie ceelee yes its a good idea, its what the people in those areas want. it doesnt matter what people in mandalay , naypyidaw or yangon think
Myanmar people deserve the treat from their own regime
Because they was supporting and happy with military killing and torture of the Rohingya people
Thousands of civilians have been massacred. Entire villages burned near Thailand Border.
and the World do nothing, and pretend they don’t see anything.
Not the U.N, and not even the Islamic Countries do anything to save their Muslim brothers and sisters. They just words.
No action. the world full of Hypocrites
This is what will happen when you destroy the minorities, this is what will going to happen next to India because of the hinduttuva terrorist government 🙄😉
I read the comments and many of them pointed at karma
But the one thing u guys should know about is that karma must go to junta
Not Myanmar citizens
They didn’t abuse rohingya or fight them
The junta did it
Why should the citizens suffer for military junta’s wrong doing
You guys should think before blaming to Myanmar citizens
Nothing to do with the ordinary peasants people…should blame the previous government whom when in power failed to deliver what the peasants people needed most…more jobs, decent life and food ready on the tables, everyday.
@SR A what fantasy world are you living in? Sounds like a socialist utopia which has never worked and never will.!!
Karma goes to both Suu Kyi with her genocide-defending government and also to the junta.
Both are evil, the only one thinking AASK is innocent are the delusional Burmese who believe AASK did the right thing by defending the junta against global investigation during the court at The Hague.
Myanmar citizens joined in the killing of Rohingya. They fully supported their military’s genocide. Now they want help? This is called karma, and it is sweet.
@Malik Rahman she didn’t defend them. She had no choice. Myanmar has more problems than just rohingya. That occurred in one area of Myanmar.
lol why a failed state if they say rent prices are growing u feel like u gonna puke cause u don´t see the posibility of you earning more . who would actually do something about a corrupt comunist state.
karma strikes heavily
Myanmar were running smoothly but military did a blunder by coup and destroyed its own nation by inviting the world power to fight
@Lilith and now they want rohingya exiles to join them against the junta double lol.
@Lilith she can’t stop military from killing rohingya anywas
@Chaebean Bak yea she could.even if she couldn’t she could speak out against them but she defended them killing minorities.she got what she deserves
@Lilith so you want her to go against the military in the public too? Military would arrest her right away. You do not even understand politics.
@Chaebean Bak I guess after she defended them now everything is way better^_^
the true lesson is : solve ur own problem instead of relying on the other ones
Thousands of civilians have been massacred. Entire villages burned near Thailand Border.
and the World do nothing, and pretend they don’t see anything.
Not the U.N, and not even the Islamic Countries do anything to save their Muslim brothers and sisters. They just words.
No action. the world full of Hypocrites.
The world should be aware now before any major accident occurs. It would be good for the people of Myanmar if everyone should make an impression on Myanmar politically and economically from their own place. Then I think the Myanmar army will back down from their decision
Military junta are the most corrupt from B&RI loans. With the last elections most of who won were pro democratic believers that alerted the military junta. Reversed and declared coup d’état afraid the General who leads will be investigated of his hidden multi millions. Protecting his own families and cohorts. This time they’re very tough killing protester to stay in power. Imprisson Aung San Suu Kyi again. Thé US and the West should at least gives more warning to the military junta. Myanmar and neighboring countries are puppets of China.
The Great Reset, it’s GLOBAL!
@marie rocher they’re a puppet of china? So suu-kyi is the puppet of the west then? So it is fair to conclude that the junta, sensing a coup was imminent because of the upcoming cold war between us and china decide to take a pre-emptive strike to remove a potential “ally” of the west.
That would explain why the foreign media give more backlash when they kidnap a single politician compared to when they commit an ethnic cleansing. Just look, some even openly support various rebel group now. What else if not for a preparation for the upcoming cold war.
The media gives a smidge of truth..meaning they leave out the REAL root cause of every catastrophe around the World …The World Economic Forum’s Agenda 2030 “Global Reset”.. They are putting the World’s people on these knee’s so we beg for their intervention ..in turn they want ultimate control over the populace. The World’s evil so called “elite” have control over every government on this Earth. Wake up
I guess the world sees the conflict in Myanmar the same way they sees the conflict in Africa. All just about No Action Talk Only
If only wealth was shared in today’s world….is it to much to ask for decent food, water and shelter these days. All I think what we should do is look out for one another, family, friends, community. Stop supporting big companies, go local…without the little people, big governments and big corporations have nothing without the minions.
The problem is that the world didnt sit and watch, some joined and supported the army and made the situation unsolveable.
you know which countries i am talking about!
U suddenly pro separatist and various rebel forces now? U want to invite other ncountry to invade ur country? U want myanmar to become the next iraq or syria?
Its pretty funny when their government persecuted the whole rohingnyan minority a lot of people support their decision but after their government kidnapped a single politician suddenly they changed their mind and support the various rebel and separatist group instead (just like the rohingnya) and even dumb enough to ask other nation to invade them.
@Agathon Christianto i am pro non intervention.
It’s very clear no one is going to help us. We are winning the Revolution on our own and we will win this. We will make sure to set an example for everyone living under authoritarian governments that when the people are united, We always win.
Too bad they didn’t have oil or drugs otherwise america would be there to help spread “democracy” 🤷♂️
I’m waiting for keyboard warrior from India to say peaceful this and that
I’m waiting
@IDK yeah i also see ppl defending the crimes of US, Israel 🥱US killed more 200,000 Afghani in AFG and ppl defending that saying it was for democracy 🤣and also defending Israeli crimes bcoz they admire US and Israel🥱
Since 2001 US spend 6.4 trillion dollar in wars and military operations in 85 countries killing 801,000 ppl including 335,000 civilians and caused 37M to become refugees. The US and its allies have dropped 326,000 bombs and missiles on other countries, the equivalent of 40 bombs and missiles per day😒
@Anime_Fan_❤️ You people are not civilized enough and always feel jealous about the development of western countries and Jewish state. Stop whining & stop using the western tech called the internet. It’s time to produce goat milk.
It’s sad to say that they watched silently as the military ethnically cleansed the poor Rohingya people and now the military is doing the same to the people who never rejected oppression of others
I’m not here to justify the situation in hand but to clarify the point
They are trying to resolve that bullshits done by military to Rohingyas. No one in Myanmar did believed they also killed innocents while clearing up the ARSA militants. They supported the military to stop the militants not the innocents. Most Myanmar people didn’t even heard of that kind of abuses and that’s the way military propaganda worked for 50 years. They’ve been doing this since the independence of Myanmar. And that’s what the people of Myanmar are trying to resolve now by fighting them back, bringing the real democracy. It would also do good for Rohingyas and also to the ethnics.
@lwin moe Aung San Suu Kyi was fully aware that the genocide was happening and still defended the junta anyway. Its a fact
@Malik Rahman All you can do is what, victim blaming, in this kind of circumstance. Get lost man, it’s sick to hear it… Are u just too blind or ignorant to see it.. comm on..
You have no point.
@DirectX Stationery sorry pal, I aint gonna sympathize with someone who defended the junta in the international court when the genocide happened.
She traded the lives of Rohingya and sided with the junta for her own security back then. Turned out the junta eventually kicked her anyway but the deed has been done.
Frankly I’m not blaming the questionably oblivious common citizens but if they choose to rally behind AASK I’m not siding with them.
Go ahead and sympathize with the mass murderer along with the Burmese if you want, I’m having none of it.
Sadly, in some countries the military is the only functioning institution that can run a country.
Why didn’t SO CALLED great US use drone to attack the tamada chief ..with him gone peace will be on myanmar ..and rest of countries will think twice of staging coup on legitimate government..
Democracy regime change is underway.
The junta control army, border and internal affairs. None of them apparently knew how to use diplomacy.
MIC will eventually reached them and cause a failed war.
They don’t have to use brute force but has been doing that since it was the only solution come to their mind.
If any civil semblance of good governance exist, they surely would separate the power of their own institution and took another to make a provable point.
But weapon gets weapon as evil begets evil.
Maybe the government of Qatar would like to send some of their soldiers to stabilize the country? There is no strategic reason for the west to do so.

“Sitting and watching” is what the world does best.
With “aiding and abetting” coming in a close second.
Sad but true
Please contact your representatives. Social justice groups organize numerous letter campaigns through The Action Network, which will send a letter to your senator or representative requesting their help in supporting the fight for democracy in Myanmar.
Yes
Karma for what they did to Rohingya
Lol wut? It’s not our business. The world stupidly got involved in Syria and look how that ended.
Grandpa Biden only cares if there is also money in for him see Ukraine and UAE.
It’s better to sit and watch. Rather than what would happen when outside country support either side. Syria, (Iran and Saudi), india or Pakistan, are free example what it might lead too.
If you hear “help, someone is trying to kill me”, would you just put on your earphones and ignore it?
only U.S can solve problem of myanmar. call America.
No oil n gas no USA
2:56
MF you have a Green screen behind you!
Strenght to the Myanmar people
A Wagner Group of professional Mercenaries could settle this war in a few weeks. Destroying the Army Barracks, airfields and important telecom systems with imported drones and other Military sights would put it on their Knees.!. Most the large army would defect if they had money to feed their families and return to their villages. The Blaa Blaa Blaa Suited International Diplomats from UN and elsewhere put on the side lines for use in later days.
The ganster military instigators of the regime must have Plan B for exile with their families and
their loot to one of 240 countries that accept them …..hiding behind ‘professional liars”!
Wagner Group would side with the Myanmar Army….
Theres no oil in myanmar so its get no atension
Thers no oil
Who are you?
Just wait for U-Turn… enjoyed.
Feedom of speech… stop deleting my comment😏
Bet they wish they never gave up their guns! If they ever had any.
Fight terrorists and install a democratic government, Al Jazeera goes REEEEEEE
Don’t do anything, Al Jazeera still goes REEEEEEE
China and russia are funding the killing
just gonna state one fact that Aung San Suu Kyi deliberately defended the junta action during the Rohingya genocide during trial at The Hague.
If that doesnt make her an accomplice of the genocide then I dont know what is.
Yah the worst thing is certain group of people from Mid East is defending crimes like Armenia genocide and Paris bombing. But I don’t find this surprising because they admire taliban & IS.
If that doesn’t make the evil people accomplices of terrorists then I don’t know what is.
Give them freedom! And China, please stop supporting the military!
You reap what you sow
Burma didn’t care about a part of its own population due to another religion and now they expect to world to care about the guys that didn’t care.
Sure, keep on dreaming! This is exactly like the old say, the came for the X but I wasn’t a X so I didn’t care and then they came for the Y but I wasn’t a Y so I didn’t care and when they came for me there was no one else there to care!
You tortured, killed and kicked out Rohingya from our country. Now your military doing the same things to you….
What goes around comes around….😏🤨
If the legitimate government asks for military action from other nations, there are some who will respond. But, if they don’t ask, any troops sent in would be considered an invasion under international law. All other options require the leaders of the coup to be willing to negotiate, which they are not. Since bringing in foreign troops would further endanger civilian lives, and negotiations are impossible, it’s unlikely other countries will get involved.
@Dawn Dee Welcome to Myanmar
I’m a chin
This has happened to my country once and no foreign government did intervene. Soldiers massacred many civilians under dictator rule abolishing democracy, while other nations stood still and just released criticisms ; even our closest allies did nothing back then. This is because of the international law that every nation should abide to. No country would like to invade and be called aggressors because this will just inspire other countries like NK to do what they want under the guise of “just liberation”. Remember Vietnam? International law can be interpreted in so many ways and that’s what make it so delicate and difficult to understand. Let’s just hope that the people of Myanmar be successful on their revolution.
Since when has a silly thing like being considered an invader stopped the US from bringing freedom and democracy to Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen or Ukraine? To name just a few.
Maybe you can explain how bin Laden’s band of booze swilling, lap dancer fancying, ‘Muslim zealot’ CIA assets achieved the impossible:
“Stage 2 (1.75 to 4.0 seconds): gravitational acceleration (free fall)”
— NIST’s WTC 7 FAQ
@John Kesich Oh, I know the US has a vast history of going where they’re not wanted, whether they’re needed or not. It’s how our nation was founded, in the first place. Ask any native tribe. But, with the current domestic situation, I think interference overseas will be a low priority. Too many fires needing put out at home to go starting them in the neighbor’s yard.
@John Kesich there was oil to be had in those countries. Along with the fact that helping Myanmar and fighting the military would be fighting China becasue they are backed by China heavily. That’s not a winning battle
No oil n GAS no NATO or USA… USA just bomb people iraq libya syria for oil
Why other countries is not helping Myanmar…. 💔
Myanmar vs Ukraine
Please help my fellow chin people… dont let them rule by the military coup again.
sorry myanmar you dont have oil ……
United Nothing
Whatever be the cost we will not let Beijing s influence increase any further north can we allow safe haven for maiosts in Myanmar to attack us India is not in a position to claim the moral high ground
Remeber what you did to rohyinga…
What goes around comes around….😏🤨
There better not be any western countries trying to “help”. Let these people fend for themselves. They brought this upon themselves. They supported their military in their genocide of Rohingya people. They refuse to feel any shame or sympathy. No help for them.
Waa looking forward to visiting the golden pagodas sigh…last country in south east asia to check off my travel list…life is not fair sometimes
If these people had protested and resisted when oppression was happen again its own Rohingiya people and were Masacred…these people sat down and relaxed
And now its own army Turned its guns against them…they want the world to show sympathy and Force the Junta
You are funny. The same junta killed rohingya and they were in power. You were fooled to believe whoever was in power in Myanmar legally was actually in power. They never gave up power. Military did whatever they wanted. Myanmar people can’t even fight for themselves how can they support and help rohingya?
There are plenty of problems in the world. Why are they accusing the world? Please, learn to deal with your own issues instead of asking for handouts. If handouts were in surplus, we’d all take them because we all need them.
💔💔💔💔
you mean as they sit and watched the rohingya genocide? even the Myanmar citizens sat and watched the rohingya genocide.
Where’s USA that promise to help?
Bad Bad
Please make a very video on indian RSS terrorist dictatorship
When materialism drives the world, the morality dies.
World was sitting and watching during every injustice
How is this the world’s problem
What about criminal general Min Aung Hlaing?
Well surely this can’t be a suprise to anyone! They inadvertently normalised/excused the actions of the military when the extermination was targeting rohingya minority. The Western world sees no benefit in coming to their rescue!
Any nation hat intervenes wants a cut of the cookie. There is no incentive for any country to get involved because This country already sold its soul to China long ago along with most of Southeast Asia. So they would be fighting China. If the US comes in, then that means there are resources to gain such as oil in Afghanistan but nah not here. Sad
Beat them badly
Myanmar is the promised land for its ruling elites only; with or without democracy makes no difference
