The Philippines is urging Beijing to recall hundreds of fishing vessels that it said were spotted near the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea. The Philippine military released photos of Chinese ships at the disputed Whitsun reef claimed by both countries. The Chinese Embassy says these vessels were not part of any maritime militia but fishing boats taking shelter during rough seas. South Korea has raised its disease alert to the highest level after a surge in coronavirus infections and two more deaths, while Chinese state media warned the outbreak had yet to reach a turning point despite some signs of easing.
