Burkina coup-makers accuse France of supporting counterattack

A state of emergency has been declared in Burkina Faso, a day after the country’s second military coup in eight months.
The ousted President Paul-Henri Damiba – who was ousted last night by a faction of the military – has called on the country’s self-appointed leader to avoid a ‘fratricidal war’.
He also denied a claim by the coup leader that he has taken refuge in a French army camp. Protesters have gathered at the French Embassy in the capital, which was set on fire.
