South Korea: Clean-Up and Recovery underway in Flood-hit Seoul

South Korea’s capital Seoul will start phasing out basement apartments – after three people died in the flats during flooding this week. The tiny dwellings are usually rented out to people on low incomes. Clean-up and recovery efforts accelerated in South Korea’s greater capital region on Wednesday as skies cleared after two days of record-breaking rainfall that unleashed flash floods, damaged thousands of buildings and roads and killed at least 10 people. North Korea carries out suspected ballistic missile launch

North Korea has fired two suspected ballistic missiles, Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide said on Thursday. The missiles were launched from South Hamgyong Province into the sea off Japan’s eastern coast. The US Pacific Command says this shows Pyongyang is a threat to its neighbours. Typhoon topples trees, knocks out power in South Korea

Typhoon Haishen made landfall just north of the South Korean city of Busan on Monday morning, cutting power to homes and factories, toppling trees, and forcing trains to be cancelled and flights grounded.
