Thailand: Protesters take to Bangkok streets despite warning

Tens of thousands of Thai protesters have been out on the streets for a fourth day, despite police shutting down major roads and public transport in the capital. A ban on public gatherings and a crackdown on Friday failed to stop protesters, who are demanding new elections and reforms to the monarchy. Thai protesters rally in Bangkok defying state of emergency

Hundreds of protesters gathered on Thursday in the Thai capital, Bangkok, calling for police to free arrested activists, defying emergency measures imposed earlier to quell a pro-democracy movement. Thailand imposed “serious” emergency measures banning gatherings of more than five people in a bid to stop youth-led demonstrations that have been rocking the country since mid-July.
