Indian security personnel killed after ambush by Maoists

Twenty-two members of India’s elite security forces have been killed during a raid on a Maoist rebel hideout in eastern Chhattisgarh state. It is the deadliest battle between the two sides since 2017. The Maoists have fought the government for more than four decades; they say they are fighting for the rights of poor farmers and landless labourers. Myanmar protesters rally as Thailand slams military crackdown

Activists in Myanmar have burned copies of a military-framed constitution in protest against Senior General Min Aung Hlaing’s power grab, as neighbouring Thailand expressed “grave” concern over the security forces’ escalating crackdown on anti-coup protesters. People again took to the streets of cities across Myanmar on Thursday, defying a security force clampdown that has killed at least 535 people since February 1 when the military deposed Aung San Suu Kyi’s elected government. Mozambique attack: ISIL claims responsibility for Palma violence

The ISIL (ISIS) group has claimed responsibility for an attack on the town of Palma in northern Mozambique, which left dozens of people dead and thousands missing. It said its fighters had seized the town in the gas-rich region after several days of fighting. Security forces are trying to secure Palma; the exact number of people killed, injured and unaccounted for – is still unknown. Armed groups have been launching attacks in the region since 2017. Thousands flee for Thailand as Myanmar military bombs border area

Some 3,000 people from Myanmar’s southeastern Karen state fled to neighbouring Thailand after the military bombed an area held by an ethnic armed group, as Western countries condemned the escalating violence in the troubled Southeast Asian nation. The military launched air raids on five areas in Mutraw district near the eastern border, including a displacement camp, the Karen Women’s Organization said on Sunday. Dozens of ‘defenceless’ civilians killed in Mozambique attack

Mozambique’s military says dozens of civilians have been killed in a five-day siege, including seven who tried to flee from a hotel in the northern town of Palma. A military spokesman says hundreds of other people – locals and foreigners – were rescued from the town which is a logistics hub for international gas projects in Cabo Delgado province where fighting is still ongoing. A three-year conflict in northern Mozambique has displaced about 670,000 people, according to the United Nations. Saudi Arabia proposes ceasefire plan to Yemen’s Houthi rebels

Saudi Arabia has announced a plan to offer its rivals in Yemen’s long-running war a nationwide ceasefire under the auspices of the United Nations, the kingdom’s foreign minister said. Houthis fire missiles, drones at Saudi oil facilities

Saudi Arabia thwarts missiles while Yemen’s Marib fighting rages

Saudi Arabia said it has intercepted and thwarted several aerial assaults by Houthi rebels in Yemen targeting the capital Riyadh and other southern cities. The attack came as Houthi rebels push forward in the northern Yemeni province of Marib. They launched an offensive against the Saudi-backed Yemeni government there in early February. Saturday was the most violent day yet. The Yemeni government has issued urgent calls for the Houthis to stop their offensive. They have warned of a humanitarian catastrophe.
