Mozambique’s military says dozens of civilians have been killed in a five-day siege, including seven who tried to flee from a hotel in the northern town of Palma.
A military spokesman says hundreds of other people – locals and foreigners – were rescued from the town which is a logistics hub for international gas projects in Cabo Delgado province where fighting is still ongoing.
A three-year conflict in northern Mozambique has displaced about 670,000 people, according to the United Nations.

Mozambique doesn’t want any assistance from its neighbours…which is why they asked the E.U to help them instead…. southern african nations wanted to help but for some reason Mozambique wants help from countrys that are far away instead.
If South Africa wishes to show leadership in SADC, then it’s armed forces need to step up and help its neighbour. If a Western power intervenes, it will only serve the notion that Africa can’t solve it’s own problems.

Sorry but South Africa has never been a regional power or leader. It’s a toothless dog and paper tiger. SADC used to have a strong leader in Zimbabwean Robert Mugabe. He stepped in to stop the war in DRC and protected the Mozambican Beira oil pipeline for decades. Now that he is gone, there is chaos in SADC. South Africa is useless. The only countries that can stop this mess are Angola and Zimbabwe.Their coalition was very effective in DRC

The Zimbabwe/ Angola coalition has stepped in to protect DRC Congo against Rwandan rebels in 1998. Zimbabwean troops also protected the Mozambican oil pipeline for decades. Angola and Zimbabwe are not stepping in this time because the world doesn’t appreciate their efforts. As for South Africa, they like isolating themselves in regional matters.
