The Belarusian government has begun releasing people who were arrested during protests this week.
It issued a rare public apology in what appeared to be an attempt to stop days of unrest.
Nearly 7,000 people were rounded up during demonstrations against Sunday’s disputed presidential election.

@Patrick the difference with Hong Kong and Belarus is that the EU is very interested in a democratic system in those countries so they already started to approve sanctions and will let the government suffer and let the people demonstrate until the government will have 2 choices:
1) let the protesters win or
2) send the military out like on Tiananmen square in 1989 but this would lead to a military intervention from Europe which Belarussia would definitely lose

I have no doubt the Belorussians are in the right, and I do hope they win… Fingers crossed! I’m fascinated by why it’s only now that people revolted. In Poland after 26 years of seeing Lukashenko in power, we got used to the thought that Belorussians simply support him, and I do believe it was true to a certain point in time (just like the Russians with Putin). I’m very curious why this drastic fall in support happened now, as in *now*… Was it because of the coronavirus? The crisis produced by Russia pouring in less money (gas for half-free, trade concessions etc)? I absolutely wouldn’t believe in an external forces, because no external force can change public support so drastically.

They pull people out of their cars and beat them and take them away too! They beat them as violently, as possible, until they lose consciousness. They break arms, legs, spine. There is evidence from hospitals of internal rectal injuries. (I hope I dont need to explain what that means). I dont know how long Belarus will be able to resist this violence.
