A day ahead of the opening of a new parliament in Myanmar, fears of a possible military coup linger.
Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) won November’s elections by a landslide, but accusations of electoral fraud, protests and an increased security presence have put the country in a state of uncertainty.

My heart goes out to everyone in Burma who have been effected from this military coup. I pray that the situation gets better and no harm is done to the general public (people) of Myanmar as none of this is their fault. To everyone whom is naive (uneducated in this topic- not your fault… as media is extremely subjective/biased) and are saying this is “karma” or “taste of her own medicine,” please take some time and thoroughly understand the situation of Myanmar before writing. Though currently called a Democratic nation, Myanmar never was a true democratic country (like Australia, UK, America and etc.) 20% of the seats in parliament were given to the military and the constitution heavily favoured them (Those who even tried to rewrite the constitution were assassinated by the military). As a result the military still has an immense presence in the whole country and have done whatever they want without any repercussions as nobody can control them, not even Aung San Suu Kyi.
If you didn’t know…Myanmar has the longest ongoing civil war compared to other countries and has had many ongoing wars all around the nation due to the military’s cruel regime. The military is not afraid to kill anyone who gets in their way which has lead to many ethnic groups, rohingyas and burmese being subjected to mass murder/genocide. There has also been a rise in insurgents in Myanmar which has resulted in the military taking harsher means to stop them and committing heinous war crimes on the way. Aung San Suu Kyi and the government were not the ones who slaughtered the rohingyas… so stop blaming them. For those who are saying its her fault for staying quiet and making excuses, I do agree in some part that she should have addressed the situation better, but what do you expect her to say when she “has a gun to her head” and is a mere puppet in the whole scheme of things. The politics of Myanmar is extremely complex, its not as simple as other countries.
Burmese people as a whole are extremely accepting, tolerant and do not discriminate against differences in religion (unlike the military). For example: My grandpa is muslim, he married a christian woman and their children believe in buddhism. You can also find mosques next to hindi temples with a chapel a block away if you live in Yangon (the country is extremely multicultural). Therefore praying ill will to the people of myanmar and mocking this whole situation is exceedingly insensitive. Please learn to differentiate that the general public of Myanmar are different from the tyrannous military. The people of Myanmar have done nothing wrong so they should not be blamed. As a result of this coup, the general wellbeing of the already struggling people of Myanmar (due to poverty and coronavirus) will be greatly affected. Hence, I pray that this situation resolves quickly and that the corrupt military will be fully dissolved (and re established), both for the innocent people of Myanmar, ethnic groups, rohingyas and the country’s democracy.
Also calling this whole thing “karma” and applauding the military’s actions is extremely ignorant as Aung San Suu Kyi is not the only one affected by this coup, the innocent general public of Myanmar are also impacted and the situation of the rohingya people in Burma will only worsen with the military in power.
