The Japanese owner of a giant container ship blocking Egypt’s Suez Canal says crews will attempt to refloat it during high tide on Saturday.
But experts are holding out little hope, with some warning it could take weeks.

The need to make a really wide strap and then pull that strap from both ends with tug boats on ether side. The strap need rubber tubbing added that can expand – to be made from something that can be inflated in some way. both non stretchable but inflatable Like rubber tubing. Also it can not hurt to dump something in the water to make things float better – like salt maybe. That strap then could be pulled from both ends by tug boats so it pulls the ship UP rather than dragging it. Also boats that can temporarily hold cargo and have cranes are needed. We were not prepared but we can get prepared for the next time this happens. Anyone have 1000 foot spools of surgical rubber ? Anyone have 1000 foot rolls of 20 foot wide canvas ? If you have ever put a air hose to surgical rubber ? It will expand a whole lot and its stiff really strong. it comes at 5/8″ as well as 1/4 and even if it was not long enough it could be tied off in the middle. Problem is those dam malignant narcissists who no one would believe they would take unfair advantage of something like this So if its stuck for a month you need to consider this.

I have a solution. Just my idea. Unload the ship. Use high load carrying helicopter to lift the end of ship that is stuck into beach. Once it is lifted high enough to free the end from the sand, the helicopter has to rotate the free end of the ship towards the water.

VL Ships should have tugs required for passage.. just another service, as this has happened three times in the last 4 years (just that the other times it wasn’t so bad).. Also tugs would limit the speed to where the single screw would still have adequate stern authority. And I do note that the Egyptians have been very good with maintaining a low key public relations policy and a ‘can do attitude’ that has not been widely reported. Bravo for them and do institute new policy in a meaningful manner so that these needed tugs are made available… (bow and stern for the single screw LV ships)
