Politicians and business leaders in Ireland have rejected British calls to renegotiate London’s exit from the EU.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has insisted a new way must be found to keep the Irish border open.
But he still can not say what that plan may be.
Al Jazeera’s Laurence Lee reports from the Irish border.

Brexit is like a gaydivorce.
@Mokhtar Rahmouni 2pac u missed out alot hru long time on see
BREEXIT is like a confused Wife who demands divorce and sleeping in the bed with her husband at same time.
???? You mean wrong like gay marriage. Weird too that a country with a the 5th largest economy on the planet, has its trade policy decided by foreign technocrats.
Just stupid. ….
You mean like Britain says I Brexit you three times and they are out.
Ooh ahh up the ra
Now prepare something between british and Ireland

We are always with Britain. We think they will take a necessary step for their people and their economy so that they they will not suffer for this one love you Britain from Bangladesh
Yeah great, so the UK can now finally leave the EU knowing that they have fantastic support from Bangladesh. How about freedom of movement between the two countries!?
Lmao you love them, meanwhile they hate you
Brexit is really stupid, I thought the English were smart people.
@joe caterman There will be no border.
Didn’t you know! Brits are mushrooms, kept in the dark and fed bullshit all their lives.
@deeestuary yup leaving England, it is like the titanic, where will you go?
@hi The economy will take a hit at first in the UK but not for long we can get along with WTO rules until other better deals can be made, however for the EU its almost like a deathblow, first because payments to prop it up from the UK will no longer be there and secondly because of the HUGE difference in trade between the EU and the UK …we export £80billion to the EU every year but import over £480billion from them so any issue with tariffs etc will hurt them a lot more…
@Maryam Fatima I think you got the bans the wrong way round …abortions are very limited in IRELAND but its much easier in the UK and women often travel from IRELAND to the UK to have them…
“it’s not a logic that most people are familiar with”
Well, that’s the understatement of the century 💀

Bought by Brussels, little Ireland’s ridiculous leaders have landed it in a Brexit crisis
This is tough right now, being a proud and loyal British subject who has lived in, and loved, Ireland for more than 60 years. What is tough is watching the ridiculous behaviour of the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and his foreign minister, Simon Coveney, trying to destroy, like wilful children, relations with an ancient and friendly neighbour.
Whatever faults the British may have, they understand independence and freedom. I can understand why they mock the ridiculous behaviour of these two men. Varadkar and Coveney are both members of Fine Gael, a party that has its roots in the fight 100 years ago to secure independence and freedom for Ireland. Yet now here they are trying to block the UK’s path to the same independence and freedom.
This is painful and embarrassing stuff.
It was bad enough these past months having to witness the humiliations of the journeys to Brussels of Prime Minister Theresa May. Begging at the Commission and Council brought her nothing. One cannot be surprised that Boris Johnson is so far refusing to go to Brussels. He is smart enough not to hazard a rerun of Theresa May’s ill-judged visits to the groups that became her tormentors.
The European Parliament had a brief walk-on part in the humiliations – to approve the draft agreement. They seemed from time to time to be sniggering behind their hands at this unfortunate woman who was betrayed on all sides.
What bothers me most is that the political leadership of Ireland is happy to be the cheerleader for these tormentors. Yet their cheerleading operates in terms that make no sense at all. Varadkar and Coveney are increasingly uncertain fools. Their desire to be players in a game they don’t understand is causing their clothing to unravel and their minds to lose their way.
Their determination to work against the UK’s desire for a smooth and prosperous Brexit will in the end leave Ireland diploma
@Coady Ryan you sounded reasonable till you got to tear up the good Friday agreement then it unfortunately became an illogical rant. Pitty really.
@Coady Ryan Leavers willing to tear the GFA up? More lies. Boris and many other leavers have said the UK will not put up a border. Its the Republic and the EU who havent made it clear they are going to protect the GFA in the event of no deal chump.
@Coady Ryan Your absolutely right the EU should GIVE BACK THE IRISH TO THE NORTHERN IRISH. Dont want to do that? Fine i already gave a far simpler solution(especially when compared to your idea).
@Coady Ryan Lol so you agree that the Republic should be in the UK? Ok then sure we are in agreement. Even if the ones that think they are British go back to the island of britain, my propsal was still for the Republic to join the north not the other way round, which is in already in the UK. Well done Coady. We can both spread it around chump.
@fat fat You’re really one of the dumbest ones.
Thankfully the Irish have a history of Bricklaying skills and they can get started once the EU draw up the design drawings for the new wall.
Bricks perhaps but we have a better history with mortar double entendre very much intended. Just ask no 10. 😂
George Carlin The UK has a fantastic wall called the ocean. It’s what makes the UK the greatest and most powerful fortress on planet Earth. The EU suffers terribly from its porous borders.
IDIOT JOHNSON IS STUPID AND CLUELESS AND IS GOING TO DESTROY THE PEACE ACCORD !
HE WILL MESS UP BIG TIME.!
England is struggling to fool Ireland.
@George Carlin ok I won’t bother to reply, have a good day anyway
@Pickle Onions Be serious. All the bland and pointless comments have been coming from Leavers for the past three years. Any concrete proposals? No. Just fatuous comments which means nothing like take back control. When the British Parliament have stated we never lost control. £350 million pounds for the NHS? Grow up and don’t gloat in the damage and hardship you are going to cause the British people.
lol. dont think so.
@Sand all Perfectly put , all Ireland is asking for is the plan Britain has for no border on the Island of Ireland … the one it said it had a plan for ! ….. hence our, and SHOULD be UKs too, insurance plan ( backstop) to keep the GFA going and keep peace!!!!!
George Carlin maybe but let’s just see. It could be good or bad. Nobody know for sure.
Brits dug their own grave. Oct 31 time to mark the stone.
@Twiistz Being a Jamaican national, I’m very happy that the early attempt to make the Caribbean a federated system failed, it is however in a customs union called Caricom, that seems to work for us.. What you’re talking about is TPTB, carving up the world for global governance for the NWO under corparate and banking control, with the likes of Soros, Lord Milner, Rockefeller and Rothchilds pulling the strings.
India was the “society’s” first major project as described in the Anglo-American Establishment written by Prof Carroll Quigley. It was them that created the Council on Foreign Relations in 1920, that has guided US foreign policy since 1945.
You can still form large trading groups, without joining politically or having same currency or same defence force or even same regulations.
No more handouts for you mate.
@Simon John (Champers Point) I am with you, Mr John. I do think the champers might be a tad early, though – I see many problems in the short-to-medium term – it might be a rocky-ride. But, for the UK’s long-term future, Brexit is, in my view, an essential move. Your examples are excellent, though.
@Simon John Mr John – (Jamaican national point – sorry, didn’t realize I was replying to two points from the same person.) a very learned reply, if I might say so. That final paragraph demonstrates the problem with the EU in my view – it decided being a trading bloc was insufficient and set-sail for political union. Had it not been for that, I am sure the UK would have been content to be a member. Such a shame.
I might just caution about targeting individuals – I am not saying you have selected the wrong ones, just that corporate greed, if unfettered, embraces very many people atop organizations – not just traditional rich families etc. But, yes, a good point or several. Cheers.
@The Oasis You are right – countries all try to make trade-deals favourable to themselves. But trading will have to be , as it always has, mutually-beneficial. Like everything, it is a compromise and the UK will have to negotiate robustly, giving something and taking something. Then again, there are fewer more-established trading nations. We shall see.
If there’s anything one learns from watching the politicians in the UK, EU, or USA is politicians actually do nothing
TheDesert IsPatient ✊🏽Fight The Power! Rage Against The Machine.
Shouldn’t the brits just give all of Ireland back?
Gladly but the Brits don’t rule the the Republic of Ireland and the MAJORITY of people in Northern Ireland want to remain part of the UK. Under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement they can exercise the right to have a vote on their future: to remain part of the UK or become part of a united Ireland. But you knew that already, didn’t you?
@4tnine Lies.
@Seán O’Nilbud You must live under a stone bridge. I’ll not respond to you any more.
Ireland will prosper and “UK will collapse soon as a 3rd world nation !”.
@Chris Davis Exactly the kind of delusion I’m talking about. Richest Area, Inner London. 36% Migrant Population.
Poorest areas: West Wales and Cornwall. 2 and 3% migrant population.
It is Westminster not some foreign entity which sucks out the lifeblood of the regions.
dream on,
@Pickle Onions The former WTO president said it was like going from the 1st Division to the 3rd, but hey , hes only the guy who knows most about World trade , remind me what organisation you will be in fully when you leave the EU ?
Ireland GDP per cap over $75,000 , UK just over $40,000
Irelands’ trade surplus $48 billion , UK deficit $100 million
Ireland produced the most per worker per hour in 2017 in the World.
The UK is 7th
Enough facts for you ?
@Arbiter Lite A 1/3 less than Germany . I heard a UK truck driver say once , the UK now puts together what Germany makes!
@Arbiter Lite You ignorant uneducated pathetic clown. Seventh and sliding. Post brexit you’ll be lucky to keep up with Canada.
Ireland should seek freedom.
I wish they would but the MAJORITY of people in N.I. want to remain part of the UK. Under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement they can exercise the right to have a vote on their future: to remain part of the UK or become part of a united Ireland. But you knew that already, didn’t you?
yes, go your own way. please, do.
@Boomer Galactica
The Brits.
The Republic of Ireland is an independent country. In fact, they’re not even part of the Commonwealth.
Northern Ireland is still part of the UK though.
Ireland will be a separate country soon.
Ireland is a separate country. The north must have the desire to break away from the UK. After all, the British stole the north fair and square. The people that voted for Brexit were lied to by BJ and his cohorts. Unfortunately, the people that did not will suffer as well. Because of BJ’s illegitimate twin brother Don the con’s trade policies and tax cuts, both the US and UK maybe headed for a recession. We Iive in interesting time.
How can it be a separate country if its an EU province
self rule is good
Free Ireland !
They are free and the MAJORITY of people in Northern Ireland want to remain part of the UK. Under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement they can exercise the right to have a vote on their future: to remain part of the UK or become part of a united Ireland. But you knew that already, didn’t you?
Do you even care that the Irish are being replaced by AFRICANS in their own country?
@Iowa State You disgusting cretin.
I have to ask…again; what did they do BEFORE they joined the EU? Why are they making things so complicated? I think every politician in the entire world needs to be replaced with people who can demonstrate some common sense. NO LAWYERS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO HOLD ANY OFFICE! They are the main reason things get screwed up.
There was a border between the north and south of Ireland, with six counties under British rule, and three decades of violence between nationalists who wanted a reunification of Ireland, and unionists who wanted to remain within the UK. The peace treaty became possible when the UK joined the EU and it’s Single Market and Customs Union with free movement of goods and people which rendered the border unnecessary. Now the UK is leaving the EU and the Single Market and Customs Union automatically re-creating the border which violates the peace treaty and can cause the violence to flare up again. Since the UK presented no solutions to the problem, the EU suggested that Northern Ireland could remain in the customs union until an alternative arrangement was found (the backstop). That way the border would be in the Irish sea instead of on the island itself which would ensure the peace treaty was not violated. The UK’s government rejected that proposal and instead wanted the entire UK to remain in the Customs Union, not just Northern Ireland. The EU didn’t like it but agreed in order to move things along and negotiations ended with a signed Withdrawal Agreement with the UK wide backstop the government had asked for. But then the UK’s parliament rejected it’s own governments Withdrawal Agreement and no alterntive solutions have been suggested from the UK’s side since then. Instead the UK now simply demands that the EU effectively destroys the Single Market and Customs Union by leaving the border wide open to a country that is not in the Single Market and Customs Union. This will not only be the end of the EU but also be the most blatant infringement of WTO rules in the World Trade Organisations history, so the UK knows the EU wont let that happen. But that is the point; it gives the UK an excuse to blame the EU for violating the peace treaty when in fact it is the UK violating it by voting for something that erects a border and then rejecting all alternative solutions.
@Josefine Nilsson That is a great description of the situation.
@Ford Prefect It was agreed. The British government signed it.
@Josefine Nilsson Only parliament can make laws. As EU chief said” nothing is agreed until everything is agreed” and parliament doesnt agree.
@fat fat LOL you weeping sore.
kashmir want freedom Go back india
justice for kashmir Go back india
Help me i am from Balochistan Pakistani army killing us we want freedom 😭😭😭😭
It’s a conundrum which politicians do you want to be in charge.
At the end of the day it will still be politicians in charge, how have you won.
Is it me or do People in government like to leave things to the last minute
Yep , the UK government has today given all the ports in the UK 9, yes £9 million in total for a no deal Brexit in 9 weeks time. Some ports will get just £150,000 each, those are UK Government figures from today!
That’s modern politics for you. Quickly in, make a mess, leave it to others to fix, use the public boost in their private career and enjoy the benefits, rewards and pensions that comes from having been elected.
The UK should just invade ireland
Already tried that. Didn’t take.
The UK doesn’t want Ireland, the Irish don’t want Ireland why do you think most went to the USA and the rest went to Britain to build roads.
@Pickle Onions I’ve seen you on every comment desperately trying to make an argument, you’ll getting your medicine on the black market soon matey, good luck. Incase you forgot to spell your name here it is I-D-I-O-T. You can put that name in while you apply for your rashings.
Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland should come together to cut the British government out. They should make the same arrangements that Northern Ireland has with the British government. But now a Inter Irish arrangement. And they should get the EU to back them up. Thereby getting the Irish back stop into a non issue. And gives the EU a Northern Ireland membership in the EU. Cutting out the repulsive and suppressive British government out of their business. And make the UK less one more subject people and nation under their oppressive RULE. The Scottish should also do the same and gain independence from their overlords. A bunch of socio psychopaths, that make up the British ruling class.
If only, you are forgetting that the DUP hate the South
good idea mate, you stay with the EU satanic cabal, and yes, Scotland can go with you as, well lets face it, all you all do is complain all the time.
suruh dia sikat rambut tu….rimas aku tengok
Easy solution is to invade Ireland .
Where too late the EU have already invaded and are cultural and ethnic cleansing while we speak.
@Anthony Burke Only temporarily invaded . After the future invisible wall border technology is invented the Irish can have their country back .
Invade Ireland, don’t you mean the EU? Another village missing their idiot.
Irexit🇮🇪
@Boomer Galactica who are you calling spastic?
Heroin is not your friend, your mind is mush.
Not many Irish people want to leave the EU. In fact, the majority of Irish people are pro-European.
@Boomer Galactica You mean the same Nigel Farage who is neither Irish or from Ireland?
Ireland don’t have any officials as far as Brexit is concerned unless they trumpet Brussels policy.
Let’s not kid ourselves that any of the EU provinces have any real political clout.
Pickle- You seem like a good upstanding British chap – Will YOU support our NEW Brexit campaign “WHISTLE FOR BREXIT”? We need YOU!! All you need to do is take a break between Youtbe postings and stand up in front of your little bedroom mirror, every hour upon the hour, and TOGETHER we can WHISTLE FOR BREXIT!! Old BRITISH favourites like “Rule Britannia”, “God Save the Queen” and “Keep the Home Fires Burning” for example. JOIN US!! Together Pickle – Let’s WHISTLE FOR BREXIT!!!
Northern Ireland doesn’t need the UK but the other way round hence why Boris is desperately trying to use the border as a bargaining chip regardless of the harm it will cause, however the EU has offered the whole of Ireland including Nothern Ireland peace. It’s time to make Ireland whole again, as a Welshman, it’d be a dream come true to see.
@fat fat 28 member states all work to to come to an agreement and form a long-term relationship …. and a few years later one of them wants a mulligan because they never a clue what they are doing ….. so much so that since half its people want out and half still want in (basically), they think that’s a good reason to drive the mulligan request and stomp out of the room without having to pay for any of the mess they are leaving. Yeah ….. no.
@Innis Mor Lol your entire comment is entirely emotional. We arent “stomping out of the room” the EU have offered a trash deal and like children dont want to look to any solutions. Again what mess have we made and what makes you so arrogant to think we are entitled to our money to sort out your mess? And guess what chump if no deal brexit happens then “stomp out of the room without paying for any of the mess” is exactly what will happen chump.
@fat fat chump chump fat fat chump chump …. lol. No wonder UK is twirling down the toilet. Keep it up! Virtually guaranteed at this point. (“we’re in!! Nope, nope, we’re not in. No, we’re in!!. Nope, not in.” LOL)
Wales should secede too. And Scotland. This whole “United Kingdom” this is ancient. England lost all its overseas commonwealth lands, so nowadays its down to ordering the Irish and Welsh and the Scots around. Tell England you’re all gone on your own, and as EU members. England can be non EU member. Maybe it can join the United States.
@fat fat Shut your dumb hole you worthless Sun reading serf.
If we don’t want a customs union, don’t want an EU army, don’t want Europeans fishing in our waters, don’t want freedom of movement, don’t want
judicial oversight, don’t want EU bills, don’t want a backstop….what on earth would be left in this talked about Agreement.. I mean, what is it that
everyone wants to agree on….its NOTHING. So leaving with No Deal fixes ALL of that. It is the only road possible AND saves us up to E39 billion.
I don’t think you need to be a politician to see this. What is needed is a solution to Ireland and I have long since favoured unity because I believe
Ireland will have a stronger identity. Boris should be focussing upon Irish unity then a referendum to ask in/out of the EU. Whichever way that
goes the ports become the customs points. Scotland must stay part of the UK and will be out of the EU for the same reasons.
Trade
The 39Bn is still due you ridiculous moron.
This time, BoJo is totally fecked! New elections coming!
The lrish refused to be governed by others since the beginning of time. Now they want to be governed by the llluminati. Absurd! Give them Northern Ireland and let them suffer alone.
@Anthony Burke No you are. You would rather be governed by the Antichrist than by real Christians. Go and leave Britain to govern itself. But ok the pope is the real Antichrist who created the Free Masons in the first place. And the Roman Catholic church governs lreland. So go figure. So you are alone being governed by someone else. Wake up and smell what happened to Lilly Allen on her lmmigration stance. She lost her estate. Karma comes in small packages.
@Anthony Burke Wonder who those IRA terrorists will fight once there is no Britain to fight anymore. Probably join ISIS in theirs.
@Pieter NIEMANDT WTF are you talking about? I think your village is missing their idiot
Don’t forget to mention unionist dissidents
No one is worried about those petty criminal turds. Without the SAS supplying them and the police helping them they are just fat retards with drums.
Seán O’Nilbud They will cause trouble if their funding gets reduced though, they always do. And this will be a possibility in a hard Brexit scenario.
For Ireland buck stop instead of backstop
Al jazeera means true you are the real media
I guess you got it wrong. It should be Britain occupied Ireland.
The majority of NI want to be in UK dumbass
@fat fat but also to remain in EU.
@Alex Wars Not according to the referendum we had.
@fat fat 55,78% voted to remain.
British is a beging of Umpire of the World so do not understimate what British people decided. So you join who you are and what your mentality because British never fail.
They failed to teach you english.
Why is that this Britains are so Confused?.
To bad Ireland is weak and has no say. Germany just gave Britain 30 days to renegotiate. Any country other than France, Germany and Britain are irrelevant in Brexit
Ireland has a big say as it affects our country and the Good Friday Agreement (peace agreement)
Not only that but about 70% of Ireland’s exports go to the UK
He has 30 days to come up with a clear viable alternative and finally admitted the onus is on the British government to do so. Clear and viable being key. He also admitted that alternatives to the backstop had not been “actively proposed” yet. That should should shut up the Brexiteers on here who were claiming there were alternatives that we rejected already. Brits have 30 days to put their money where their mouth is or shut up and accept the backstop.
@Irish 1916 I heard that only 16%. It still a big number but Ireland can expect a support from EU. There is a plan to redirect agriculture export to Europe if UK stop the import.
@Irish 1916 Nonsense.
Poor Colin your ignorance is laughable.
They gotta figure this out.
Or the Old ways will return.
The Violence and Hate. Will come back.
Not like the old days.
The Sun has quoted Boris as saying one of his ideas is … Ireland leave the EU temporarily so there would be no divergence … seriously , a bit like his Home Secretary ( Priti Patel) saying they could block food to Ireland to use as leverage …. I can’t believe they are running a Country! And he wants us to trust just his word, hmmmmm !
支持苏格兰,威尔士和北爱尔兰的人民为独立而战。
I think Scott fight for their freedom
Up the ra
This a right time for Ireland call for independence from Britain now interfere with Kashmir supporting Pakistan this right time for Ireland
Ireland is a free and independent country.
This is the equivalent of a cheating ex-husband begging his bitter ex-wife to renegotiate the divorce settlement. Good luck with that. 😆
I do not agree but I love the way you put it 🙂
When Scotland gains Independence the unionist in the north will have to choose between Scotland and rump UK, they will choose Scotland. This will lead to an arrangement between the Irish and Scottish states to envelope the six counties into the EU.
I’ve never been to Ireland or Britian, but I have the impression that unionist in NI consider themselves “English” (While the English don’t give them a second thought). So my question is with whom do they identify England or Scotland?
@J. O’Brien It’s not English, they would call themselves Ulstermen with very Strong ties back to Scotland.
The majority of the Planters, those who colonised the North came from Scotland 400 years ago.
😂
@Robert Elliott OK — the funny thing about that is in my encounters with folks from Britian, generally the Scottish, Welsh, and Cornish will identify by their nationality, and the English identify as “British”.
EU is very corrupt, now pushing immigration in large numbers. Ireland needs an Irexit.
Republicans will not attack Irish or EU border controls – those are the good guys in their eyes. They will probably attack British borders – which is why the British government doesn’t want to put British customs border checks. Protestant terrorists on the other hand are in support of a hard border, and so will not attack border posts either. The problem will be sectarian violence flaring up again within N. Ireland. The simple and obvious solution to all this is to ditch the DUP and do the customs checks in the Irish Sea instead.
I like that UK gave Boris that position because he was a major contributor to the brexit misinformation, therefore, Brexit failure will be Boris’ failure…he will make May a legend ( a good thing for women historical leadership in Britain)….the men seem incompetent nowadays
There is one and only one solution, a united Ireland. Good Luck from Denmark.
@RN 2001 you didn’t know that did you. You see you are suffering from project fear. And that’s how the EU will drown you into a Soviet Union and financial collapse of the Euro because you are afraid of independence and making your own decisions.
maydate86 hahahahahaha aye ok then chump
@Talûn-karkû The Warchief haha vivo en un lugar tropical las papas no crecen aqui, pendejo.
@Talûn-karkû The Warchief You don’t seem to have a good command of English either.
educate yourself dear
Why is Northern Ireland part of the UK and not Ireland anyways? As a Canadian I can say that it looks to me like the sea and ocean makes a nice clear border
Tom Kelly Northwrn Ireland historically supported Union with Britain instead of independence with Ireland, so they became a apart of the UK when Ireland left. Just because it looks better on a map doesn’t mean that’s how the people living there want things to be
It’s hard for a Canadian to understand. It’s very similar to what was going on in the ’90’s when Quebec wanted to separate from Canada. They have two national identities in Northern Ireland: Irish and British. As Canadians its hard for us to understand because we’ve only one nationality in Canada, and because we’re a country of immigrants, we also have our ethnic identity which is separate to our national identity. All I can say is that it’s complicated and I just have to have faith that stuff will work out.
Tom Kelly Because back in the 17th century the British invaded, took the land and gave it to settlers from England and Scotland. The native Irish were unsurprisingly not keen on this development and so sets the scene for 300 years+ of sectarian strife.
*Kelly/🥔
Eh it’s a British border in Ireland created by Westminster when they partitioned Ireland in 1920
That’s a tad unfair. Firstly, yes the border is an artificial construct, resultant from the 1920s split of Ireland – though by the British, rather than just the English. Secondly, they were dancing on pin-heads at the time, trying to withdraw from Ireland but not antagonise the north. Thirdly, it is a century ago – no one alive had any part in it. Fourthly, Her Majesty’s Government via the then PM, Sir John Major, has said the UK has no strategic interest in Northern Ireland and that, should a majority of its inhabitants vote for separation from the UK and / or union with Eire then that shall be facilitated. What everyone is now searching for is a way to have a division between the UK and the EU (of which Eire is, and will remain, a part) without having physical borders nor unfavourable tariffs toward Ireland. Everyone is trying very hard to do this; the British are not trying to maintain any border nor do they want to. It takes two to tango, so to cliche, and the EU could also work on this problem if it so chose. Cheers.
Llewellin Belton The Island of Ireland voted for independence in 1918. Westminster’s response was to partition the country and gerrymandered a border to create a Unionist majority statelet mainly comprised of Ulster Scots who were planted in Ireland at the expense of native Irish who had their lands confiscated.. WM also threatened Ireland with total annihilation if they did not agree to partition. It may have been along time ago but the negative and destructive consequences of partition continue to this day. Éire is the Irish for Ireland. Please note the correct spelling. That’s a “fada” on the é. Sláinte 😉
Dundalk has shined itself up nice.
This is going to end in tears and blood shed – and the British will have no one else to blame but themselves for it.
@A Concerned World Citizen hush now don’t fret your little head, it’s all going to be fine, you’ll see
@Dr Bojangles well of course its going to be fine for me – i dont live in the UK! Lmao! Its going to work out swimmingly for me and my county if England leaves the EU and the United Kingdom fractures, silly sausage! Australia is taking post-Brexit little England to the proverbial cleaners in the trade deal we’ve got in store for you – and you dont have the bargining power to leverage in those negotiations, meaning its a WTO bargining with you, a net-import country on a market trade that is yet to be built? Lol That means you can either take what we offer or go elsewhere and its no skin off our noses. Lol smh gonna take you to the cleaners, my son! Lol.
A Concerned World Citizen oh I see lol I’m a Kiwi so we’ll probably get a good deal too. I think in the long run they’ll be better off for it, we’ll be able to reinvigorate the commonwealth too
@Dr Bojangles if you’re a Kiwi – New Zealand does well IF they go into trade negotiations with NZ, which I expect they will – but its not good for them, mate – its about as “good” as a kick in the head. Unless you think paying ALOT more for what you used to pay less for the same thing, is a somehow “good” lol smh.
A Concerned World Citizen yup I suspect well be shipping over a good quantity of dairy and lamb by the end of it 🙂
Ireland is already declining upon mass I don’t care, Scotland and Ireland can join the EU and get flooded. I no longer care for those nations. Idiots speak for themselves.
USA & UK against the rest of the world …. destroying the western block so that Russia & China cant take over easily. Must be Putins dream.
A United Ireland is the best solution
Oh no! Suppose we will have to listen then.. . . 😂
Ireland is in denial… the game is up, the Backtrap is in the bin, but they ain’t got another plan
@Adam Martin
LMAO Still in denial… what is Irelands plan for no-deal?
@AsAnUlsterman To unite.
@Adam Martin
Not on offer as most people in Northern Ireland and in Southern Ireland do not want it.
@AsAnUlsterman In a No Deal Brexit? Every poll shows that a referendum will pass.
@Adam Martin
In case you don’t remember in the last (1973) border poll 98.9% voted to remain in the UK. Don’t know what polls you are looking at but I can assure you that there is no chance of a vote for a united ireland. You really should stop listening to the bullshit Sinn Fein put out, they don’t tell the truth.
The whole thing about border controls is a farce and always has been, they only become an issue if physical border stations are put in place and there’s no reason why they should be after Brexit…the British government has already confirmed that none will be placed on the Northern Ireland side so if there`s a problem there it will be because the Irish have been forced to put them there by the EU in effect causing the very problem their worrying about …
To my knowledge that’s the only time I have heard that issue of contingency ever been discussed…because if an snap no-deal Brexit really was planned you’d have thought the contingency plan would be well understood by now surely?…but as you can see the only preparedness comes south of the border and even they don’t understand anything of an neighbours EU exit but there’s an lax and even less understanding up north where the totally unpredicatble outcome of an totally unprepared EU exit could be totally devastating but to an hard won truce and the goodwill of an EU inspired peace process and thats far far worse…So i think it’s about time Boris was more honest and gave up with the lying rouse and crude blackmail of the EU parliment … He really needs to learn to swallow his pride and retire the ageing loonies of the tory party to Clacton-on-sea and whats more indefinitely. …
I am French, a lot of people in France want to get out of the EU, and though I do not like everything about the Eu as it currently is, I also believe that leaving it would be a biggest mistake. Honestly ( not trying to be a jerk), but the UK example does NOT make me want to go through all this drama… and this time I don’t think the EU is to blame.
“If you try to follow Brexit step by step, it’s very frustrating because it’s not a logic that most people are familiar with”
hahahaha! Nicely put.
They don’t either… because it’s illogical… Bojo is just another Muppet…
Somebody please explain. If the UK-EU withdrawal treaty needed to be ratified by the 27 on the EU side and was, and needed to be ratified by the UK parliament on the UK side but was not. Why was the ‘EU/UK withdrawal treaty not scrapped and reopened for renegotiation? WTF is going on, eh?
