CNBC’s Arjun Kharpal reports that Huawei’s own operating system may be ready for use in China this year. That, however, would only happen if Huawei is completely banned from using software from Google and Microsoft, according to a company executice.

Yeah, this is good journalism, reach out to Huawei for comment instead of having a panel of “experts” speculating.
@Peace The the ither products will sell only in china and communist countries
Kyco MC nah their products will sell across the globe expect for the US!
@922apocalypse not their Phones. Non playstore phones will never sell
Kyco MC says who?
@922apocalypse a non chinese
Particularly for PCs Huawei’s operating system will almost certainly be a somewhat modified version of Linux. Huawei’s smart phone operating system will almost certainly include the Android API. I think some of their statements already talk about an improved Android API. Huawei’s main business of communication infrastructure requires a large effort in programming the system software that runs those devices. There is little doubt that Huawei has the competence to deliver an operating system with some modifications of their own on top of the open source base for Linux and Android. How their support structure develops remains to be seen. They are likely preparing for a number of alternatives. Even if they go with their own PC operating system, it almost certainly will be possible for integrators or end users to install Windows. They will almost certainly continue to support smart phone applications that run on the Android API. But American application developers may not be able to sell their applications through an ap store run directly by Huawei. Huawei’s consumer oriented business will go through a period of disruption. Companies with substantial exposure to American business will visibly obey the American law. Consumer service providers with other alternatives will not take the risk of Huawei’s uncertain future when they have other easy choices. Of course, companies that do large business in China will have to worry about the Chinese government reaction. They will be motivated to find ways around the American laws if they can. There is an high probability that Huawei will be able to organize an effective business within China’s very large market. How it does in the rest of the world and the processes it uses outside China will take time to see? But much of the world will be faced with a difficult choice. For them business with China is as important or more important than business with the United States. If the United States presses them to stop doing business with China, the outcome has an high potential to spin out of control.
@Hang Lyu you are defending Huawei saying that they can bring a new OS. And about your education I can say the same of you.
Kyco MC when/how did I ever say they can bring a new OS? Please please please quote me.
Kyco MC So Trump’s supporters can’t read, somehow I am not surprised.
Kyco MC why are you so quiet? Do yourself a favor. Look at yourself in the mirror, and ask yourself. Are you dumb? Does supporting trump makes you dumb? Or maybe it’s a bit of both that you are dumb and supporting trump makes you even dumber. I’d say it’s the latter.
One important thing you miss is, US laws only applied to US companies and their tech, and third party tech developed on US soil.
Any other companies, even if they are from US’s closest allies don’t have to follow US laws. They can and will work with Huawei.
I’m glad to hear that they are going to try to get their own operating system although I’m pretty sure it will simply be a copy of some existing technology nevertheless without actually trying to comply with U.S issues I don’t see how they’re going to be able to break into the US market.
@Tunis Saadia US can’t hurt China’s economy. It would be like Walmart trying to hurt Amazon.
@Tunis Saadia I’m not Chinese. I’ll give you a figure that you will understand why my statement is true. Look up the trade amount from US and China. It is around 500 Billions. Now look up the GDP of China. Around 14 Trillions. So that means US trades with China only account for 3.6% of China’s GDP. That’s no impact.
@Tunis Saadia USA, the largest economy in the world, is not important to Huawei….. then why the mainland government has been yapping about how unfair it is?
Blaze6432 they survive without US market and are 2nd largest in no of sales of mobile phones without US market. No business do not want more sales and larger share of market, so of course they want to enter US market. Under free trade, it is of course unfair to ban a brand without any concrete evidence of the accusation
they have anounced that they dont need usa market
You already bought chip for China?
HuaS
😎😎😎😎😎
I hope there are other tech companies from Asia that can rival Apple .It is hard for HW to go alone against so many US tech companies plus their allies.Fainted.
Asian united together fight for the real world peace and freedom
@Yihao
Other Asian companies do not stand a chance against western companies.South Korea and Japanese companies are well known , but they are US allies .
Indian really can talk talk talk talk only
Indians can work too.
Don’t forget your genetic father is an Indian since your so called father could only talk talk and talk but could not perform anything.
@Shuyanchi Please do not give explanation to these idiots. They are not worth it.
I am bored of android, need a change, a fresh look to user interfaces, hope they come up with something really good.
nationalghost man you don’t need blow my notifications do you ? You’ve made your point and I’ve made mine. And I’ve given my answers to the questions you just asked. so plz stop repeating over and over again without evidence cuz it sound like brain washing. And tbf you’re the least one who supposed to complain Chinese military cuz they’re protect Chinese people including you. The US military doesn’t give a shit about you. On top of that, the whole claim about Huawei’s military relation is based on Ren is a former engineer in it. Western media doesn’t know Chinese history that well, so they may have a misconception towards this problem and that’s understandable. But you’re a chinese so you should know the truth don’t you ? 30 years ago lots of Chinese people are willing to work for military because it’s a promising job that helps families get rid our of poverty. The intention of Ren has no different from others, which is to get a decent salary. And he starts his own business after he has the money earned from that job. Looks like nine year free education didn’t help you either in history or critical thinking, which is sad. Again stop repeating fake things unless you got solid proof.
@nationalghost Destroy the world ? Are they fucking alien or something ? LOOOOOOL you just made my day, well done
that won’t be a good strategy for Huawei, better to make it just like Android
@nationalghost i am glad americans are keeping from truth about china, America becomes a great country by seeking the truth and independent mind, unreasonable and populism will keep America from greatness. keep doing that, pls.
@nationalghost if you live in China and hate the country so much, love out of China as soon as possible. China do not need people like you. Go the US,, where you can have the freedom to criticize since you love to criticize. No body will stop you.
China always thinks long term, longer than the US 4 year presidency. Google not only lost Huawei as a customer by Trump’s action, but also created a new competitor.
@K M — They are Chinese and they know that the only way their country can stop US bullying is to support their own products. Huawei’s OS will succeed because Huawei has a billion people and a very powerful government behind it.
And support from overseas chinese too, US enemies too and thats too many to count. Google n MS will be relegated to relegated to insignificance, bye bye
@American Patriot I dont think that the typical chinese care about that. Im japanese and Im buying Samsung.
@K M — they didn’t until it became obvious that the US government is attacking Chinese tech companies to stop China’s economic and technological development. Chinese people don’t have the luxury not to support their tech companies unless they intend on being bullied forever.
@American Patriot wrong. Only racist kids think like that. See that Japan attacked China in ww2 and senkalu etc. Still Chinese are the number 1 tourist source to Japan. Because like I said. Not everybody gives a fuck about rich people bussiness.
Huawei phones will be so much safer without Google software spying on it’s users
And nobody outside china wilm buy them
China will spy more.
@K M is 1.3 billion not enough?
@Keren Yu not enough because they have fierce competition
@Mac Tek there has been absolutely zero evidence of spying on Huawei devices. Google and apple, however, have been caught spying on their users. Also iPhones are made in China too dummies. If China wanted to spy they would have been using them for years.
If China can live with just Wechat, they can do it with their own OS and hardware.
China will facial recognize everyone and follow all their movements. When a crowd gets together, they will know it and come to break it up.
Yeah sure – also aliens “could” land tomorrow in front of your house.
Huawei Nova 3i
I’m less concerned about being spied on, and more concerned with Huawei being a SOE, and how bizarrely its chief officers have acted since 2011 trying to hide the function of the Communist Party committee that is maintained within the firm. SOEs can’t do capitalism, so, as a capitalist I can’t have any interest in China’s SOEs, and anyone who does is not a capitalist either.
You have a western perspective of SOE and capitalism which is different from socialism with Chinese characteristics.
An SOE or state controlled firm has a definition. The communist party doesn’t have an exemption. And c’mon lol. I’m not a millennial. I’ve been around while and hearing the (insert whatever) with “chinese characteristics” for like 25 years. That’s generally code for the Communist Party of China wants to do something that sort of breaks rules or maybe really breaks the rules but they just want to do it
@rick m60: Ideology is a bit of a trigger word. China has always had an authoritian rule. The emperer has been replaced by a party, but the role, responsibility, expectation, relationship hasn’t changed between the people and the “ruler”. ..that’s the chinese characteristics. Here’s China democracy from an American observer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUxbZ07q7j0&frags=pl%2Cwn
China gave 2 years tax free and 3 years 50% tax rebate. This means China is fighting back
And China expects that US will be beaten in max. 3 years. China needs 3 years to win the market with deploying 5G network, and 1 belt 1 road.
The new huawei new operating system is called trumpet 😂
😂😂😂😂😂
As an app developer, if App Gallery takes a smaller cut (less than the Play Store, which takes a 30% cut), I’d be totally willing to jump in and develop apps for them.
Have access to over 1.3 Billion customers? I think you might want to get in as soon as it is release before competition arise.
Lol. Huawei is going down! China smacked down by America. Well, they’ve had it coming to them for all their tech steeling they’ve done. Huawei is getting booted out of the market – Like anyone is going to really us a Huawei OS. That’s such a joke.
Huawei has never been in the US market. So how would they get “booted out? Saying Huawei is going down because they are not in the US Market would be the equivalent of saying Amazon is dead because it has no access to the China’s market. US market has 320 Million consumers vs China’s 1.3 Billion consumers. There is a reason why Huawei is currently the #1 largest Telecom Company in the world without any presence in US Market. The world is a big place my friend. Every company will thrive in their environment. Huawei will continue to grow in the East. And American Companies will continue to dominate the West. It is as it should be.
Android hasn’t change much since Lolipop so I am looking forward to this new OS from Huawei.
WhaWay’s Year of system crashes, spying, privacy leakages, customer issues. Don’t want to be in that space. The fate of the copy cats.
with the market size that huawei have even just in china, i dont think it would be hard for them to get third party developer on their platform.
Us just ignited one of the finest smartphone manufacturer to make their own os.. We for a huawei user like me.. We will be waiting eagerly for new os and give them a chance..
Many years ago, a company from Unite State signed a contract to buy Huawei for $100 million dollars, but the US company cancel the deal because change the chairman. This week Donald Trump want to collect 100 billions dollars tariff and put Huawaei on the table. US stock market lost over 1 trillion dollars. Donald Trump should punished that US company for harming the US security and financial market.
Not a fan of Huawei, but competition is always good.
well done huawei, free the world from US spy.
Huawei forever
huawei operating system should be name TRUMPet OS as trum(p) is huawei pet
i dont really care if i’m the last one using huawei’s os. the company has earned my support and will continue supporting them.
Huawei was developing its own OS since 2012, they really think long term, do you really think they are stupid to become the world number 1?
An alternative to Android and iOS? Fuck ya!
I believe there will be hackers who make google Apps work on Huawei devices
why cnbc logo is so similar to Huawei
I am already wanting an autobiography of Mr. Ren. He is so amazing.
People will support Huawei os because they do not like to see Hawaii being target and bully by USA, i have switch to Chinese phone because of that reason, I am sure many people out there feel the same.. but to my surprised, the phone performance is much better than the non Chinese….
It’s Kirin chips are made by a Taiwanese semiconductor company. What if Taiwan decided not to work with Huawei?
And then I-Tunes gets shut down 😂😂😂 Trumps actions are backfiring 😂😂😂
This is as long huawei able to finish own OS and having good apps support with own apps store by this year.
Solving huawei device OS issues is priority to their survival.
By next year it can tackle supporting all android devices, this will most likely take over 50% of android market.
Reason because huawei having better tech at lower cost, having own OS will also ensure huawei devices run more efficiently ~~meaning more will switching to huawei devices.
It be a lost for google market and many handphone maker in this scenario, thanks to US-huawei ban!
This is as long they success this year on huawei device first, consumer will not wait, once losing market share it hard to recover.
What Trump and Google did to Huawei has shown to the world that it is very dangerous to use US software, because one could be cut out and die abruptly, under the pretext of trade issues. This should also make the world think they should stay away from those software and develop their own operating systems. Huawei is taking the right step in the right direction.
Big salute to *Huwaei* … 🤘
Yes the worlf need Huawei badly as a new mobile OS.
i reckon apple are involved with the us government on banning Huawei
Dumb US govt. puts tension between trade and economy of other countries. They are really jealous of the growth of another country. And the decision to ban US services and products will create the hope in majority of Asia market to home grown it’s products and services. They might not be good and polished at start but will overcome the products currently best in department over time. The Google and other US companies actions towards other countries companies can’t be justified. I used to be a Google services addict, but time has changed now…..
I HATE America!
